5.0 out of 5 stars An undiscovered genius....., 16 Jun 2004
By A Customer
well to me anyway & I suspect his name wouldn't be widely recognised to those who aren't connoisseures of 1970's films . This guy knocks John Barry into a cocked hat ( slight exaggeration... but he's at least as good if not better )but when was the last time you saw any of these films : the Marseilles Contract , Fear is the Key , The Black Windmill ???. This is a superb representation of what Roy Budd was all about & seems to have been a real labour of love to rescue some incredible music from obscurity - this music still seems fresh , dynamic & relevant today .

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, moody and groovy, and mind blowingly brilliant!!, 15 Jun 2001
This is by far the most mind blowing collection of quality 60s & 70s British soundtrack tunes showcasing an individual composer. Buddisms, is an incredible audio journey into the wonderful mind of perhaps one of the most inventive British soundtrack composers of recent times. Each track possesses that Roy Budd magic formula of deep searing basslines, groovy percussion and sweeping strings which in turn conjure up vivid moody soundscapes, perfect for any stylish British gangster/thriller movies. If you loved the Get Carter soundtrack, then I strongly recommend Buddisms- its got more firepower than a bullet from a baretta!

4.0 out of 5 stars Roy Budd had no image just his music., 20 May 2007
This review is from: Buddism (Audio CD)
In these days of third rate nobody's who can barely mime to a backing track this CD reminds you what actual talent sounds like. Focusing mainly on his funkier instrumental soundtrack scores this CD shows Roy's keen ear for melody and pioneering use of electronics in the mix which was years ahead of it's time and still sounds great today. The few acoustic tracks show off his distinctive and accomplished jazz piano style. Roy wasn't the coolest thing on the planet and didn't have attitude, even in the seventies he wasn't a household name, but his music was GOOD. Isn't that what it's all about? This CD is recommended as an entry into Roy Budd's music.
