Product Description

From the Label

By Request is a collection of Eric Bogle's most requested songs, all of which feature on his earlier albums The Eric Bogle Songbook vols 1 and 2.

Eric was born in Scotland in 1944, and in 1969 he emigrated to Australia where he still lives. He has been writing songs and poems since he was eight years old - possibly his most recognizable and popular song is "And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" which to date has been recorded by over 100 artists. Another of his songs "The Green Fields of France (No Man's Land)" was recorded by The Furey Brothers and spent an incredible 26 weeks in the Irish charts, including 10 weeks at No 1.

Eric regularly tours the US, Canada and Europe, as well as his adopted Australia. Over the past 20 years or so he has recorded a total of 14 albums and has been the recipient of many awards for his music, including a UN Peace Medal and The Order of Australia from the Australian Government.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eric Bogle is one of the truly great songwriters., 3 Feb 2002
You may not have heard the voice, but you will certainly have heard some Eric Bogle songs, without even being aware of who the man is. "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda" ans "No Man's Land" are 2 of the greatest anti-war songs ever written, and have been covered countless times. To hear Eric singing them for himself, with real feeling and sorrow, is a pleasure. The haunting "Glasgow Lullaby" leaves you speechless. However, Eric's tremendous humour is also found in "He's Nobody's Moggy Now" (sorry cat lovers) and "Silly Slang Song". Even if you do not normally think about folk music, add this to your collection. A truly memorable album.
