Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Although doomed to play second fiddle to Canterbury contemporaries Soft Machine, Caravan delivered much music of merit; and If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You--their second album, originally released in 1970--stands as their best. There was always a slightly wistful, pastoral quality to Caravan's music, and that's what comes across here, from its lush green cover to the music inside. Pye Hastings' voice is soft and enticing, particularly on "With an Ear to the Ground You Can Make It". Back then, shortness was not seen as a virtue, and in keeping with the mood of the times, "Can't Be Long Now" clocks in at a hefty 14 minutes. But Caravan could also be disciplined, as the single "Hello Hello" demonstrates. Bolstered by four intriguing bonus tracks and thorough new sleeve notes, If I Could Do It All Over Again... should bring back a host of happy memories. --Patrick Humphries

CD Description

Caravan finally gets its due with this tremendous reissue. A proto-prog band that walked the line between hooky psych rock and jazzy excursions better than anyone else, Caravan's progressive indulgences were simply the result of a group ofenormously gifted musicians playing in an incredibly tight band. IF I COULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN, I'D DO IT ALL OVER YOU, their second album, captures them in their prime and features classics such as the title track, "I Wish I Were Stoned," and "Hello, Hello." The reissue includes bonus demos of these last two tracks and others.

5.0 out of 5 stars PHEW!!!!, 4 Nov 2002
If I could listen to it, I would listen to it all over again.....

This a virtually faultless album. Only 'In The Land of Grey and Pink' betters it in Caravan's catalogue, and then only just. Subtle, cute, forceful, all the qualities a great record should have. Its the music of a rural English landscape personified (as is G&P). The music sounds like the cover looks, if that makes sense. If you need to start listining to early seventies English prog for some reason, start here then you won't waste hundreds of quid on the voluminous amounts of crap you could stumble into without helpful guidance!

Buy it, you'll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply beyond words, 25 Sep 2005
By A Customer
I came across this after reading the reviews on Amazon. My only regret is the years I've missed without it! There is a pastoral, autumny feel with Caravan, which can at only moment transcend into any given season. This album has it all, superb musicianship, great hooks, and sensitivity in abundance. Once in every few years an album grabs my attention. In this case it has, and won't let go! I couldn't recommend it enough....enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Most played album in my collection - brilliant!, 1 April 2001
I bought this in 1972 because of its hippy/freak overtones and after I'd seen the band live. It soon became the most played record in my collection. On the surface it appears frivolous but on increasing listening one soon realises it's a real jazz/rock masterpiece. The range of instruments played is interesting (including hedge-clippers) but this album is really dominated by David Sinclair's mastery of the hammond organ. A real treasure, I'm so glad I can now get it on CD and give my vinyl a rest!
