Hantai's performance demonstrates a relaxed but utterly precise mastery of this intricate material. It's hard to imagine anyone doing better. As for the music: take Byrd's more mathematical excursions, plus some, add a unique flavour (more Marlowe than Shakespeare) and remember Bull's portrait: slinky, intelligent, very much in his Tudor world but not quite of it....
