Amazon.co.uk Review

From The Terminator to Titanic, you can always rely on writer-director James Cameron to show you something you've never seen on the big screen before. The guy may not consistently pen the most scintillating dialogue in the world (and, especially in this movie, he doesn't seem to have a particularly high regard for women), but as a director of kinetic, push-the-envelope action sequences, he is in a class by himself. In True Lies, the highlight is a breathtaking third-act jet and car chase through the Florida Keys. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a covert intelligence agent whose wife of 15 years (Jamie Lee Curtis) finally finds out that he's not really a computer salesman and who becomes mixed up in a case involving nuclear arms smuggling. Tom Arnold is surprisingly funny and engaging as Schwarzenegger's longtime spy partner, and Bill Paxton is a smarmy used-car salesman whom Arnold thinks is having an affair with his wife. Purely in terms of spectacular action and high-tech hardware, True Lies is a blast. --Jim Emerson, Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Puts modern action movies to shame, 20 Oct 2008
I just rewatched this film tonight, after having not seen it for many years. OMG, not only does this film still hold up, it puts many modern action films to shame. Amazingly well directed, funny, exciting and griping, with some brilliant action scenes. Very good score by Brad Fidel. Arnold is never better and Jamie Lee Curtis is very good too.

I believe this film is cut in the UK, so you might want to import. Although I have the first pressing of the UK DVD, which had the uncut version on there by mistake. You can find this DVD because it has the old style '15' rating symbol, before they changed. That's the DVD you want. For the second pressing of the DVD, they put the cut version on there.

5.0 out of 5 stars James Bond but good, 11 Sep 2002
By A Customer
Imagine James Bond, as played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and directed by the genius behind Aliens and The Terminator. Add some great comedy (especially from Bill Paxton), a credible storyline and take away the complete predictability and boredom of the Bond franchise and your kinda in the right area. Arnie is perfect as a spy/family man and this being a Jim Cameron movie expect the best action scenes since T2 (also Cameron). If you enjoy big, loud, fun movies then you'll worship True Lies. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention the amazing Jamie Lee Curtis, she's great in this and her dancing... WOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars ARNIE IN HIS BEST ACTION FILM YET, 22 Dec 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: True Lies [VHS] [1994] (VHS Tape)
This movie was great, it was like a James bond sort of film but with more guns, terrorists and explosions, the things Arnie rides is cars, Jets even Horses, great film with bits of comedy in it as well
