Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Lead your Samurai warriors once more in Shogun Total War: The Mongol Invasion Add-On Pack for Shogun Total War. As before your task is to command thousands of loyal samurai and other troops against warring factions in massive battles that will determine the fate of Japan itself.

Keeping true to the original game, this add-on pack offers four new campaigns and four new strategy map scenarios to take you straight into the action. The main thing you'll notice is the addition of the Mongolians to battle against as they try to invade Japan in the 13th century. Of course with any addition of a new race in a game comes a host of battlefield units to get to grips with and additions like the Mongolian Cavalry make for a gruelling challenge.

Rather than just adding a new race and new challenges to conquer, EA have tinkered with the AI giving the gameplay a more balanced approach as well as improving the interface and presentation of the whole game overall. If you're looking to put a new lease of life into what is essentially a very good game then this will certainly do the trick. --Jason Denwood

Manufacturer's Description
Let the battle begin! Feudal Japan is under attack from invading Mongol hordes in the official expansion pack for Shogun: Total Warlords. The new enemy threatens to destroy the country and offers a completely new style of gameplay with the focus on pillaging the Japanese landscape (rather than building). The Mongol Invasion pack will also offer an array of new and improved features to reintroduce players to the original Shogun title that delivered a revolutionary style of gameplay through its epic size battles, giving players command of thousands of warriors, each with their own unique Artificial Intelligence (AI) and fighting to unify Japan under their own powerful warlord.

2.0 out of 5 stars Shogun: Mongol Invasion, 10 Jul 2005
By Maebh of Connaught (Meath, Ireland) - See all my reviews
A rather disapointing add-on to an excellent game. The Mongols are not permitted to build anything so the game is one battle after another. Worse, someone decided to speed up the building process so it takes just two seasons to construct, say, an archery dojo, instead of four; this spoils the tempo of the game. And as the Mongol invasion is fictional, why couldn't the Japanese invade China and give us a new map instead of a few variations on the old scenary? I returned to the original game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and Original and nicely, 12 Aug 2001
Wonderful, original and with epic scope, people wanting grand tactic filled battles will not go wrong with this. As a massive war studier I still do have a thirst for bigger battles, and cannons. But this, so far, is the best on the market. Its authentic Japanese setting may discourage, or encourage, people to ply, it encouraged me and the games deep history makes it wonderful to study(if your a fan) I thought that the multiplayer was very good, much better than I thought it would. The battles are technically slow but tactically fast in multiplayer. the single player battles are, as you expect, wonderfully paced. I would recommend this over all other RTS titles because of originality, and(I think) wonderful campaign mode, though diplomacy is pointless to be fair. The simple feeling of long and difficult campaigns in a desperate measure to survive is a wonderful feeling. Your armies pushing, and getting pushed back on there borders is terrific, and the peasant revolts make the most powerful Diamyo have a weakness, from inside. Geisha shouldn't exist cause they always make the game unfair. But other than that, wonderful. The expansion pack will change all other expansion packs(It changes history) and looks to be the most wonderful Expansion to date ever. Multiplayer is fun in campaign mode(mongol add on only) because you can play it with your friends over a matter of weeks and months. Every time taking your sword to rule Japan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Plays alot, 8 May 2002
By A Customer
If you enjoyed Shogun, this is a must! It alters the game play engine very subtley which makes for better game play. In STW if an enemy unit was running away from battle & ran into one of your units, the enemy got a charge bonus, in Mongol because the are routing they do not. This is much more realistic, as are various other little tweeks.

The new units, espically the battlefield ninja add more advanced game play & a new level of control to aim for after STW.

All in all truly excellent & very much worth the money.
