This has got to be one of my all time favourite films. Fascinating period subject matter ( Proust 'Remembrance of Time Past'), sumptuous locations and costumes, wonderful saturated colours,crisp direction and dialogue, excellent cast ( Jeremy Irons and a marvellous cameo from Alain Dellon). Plangent and memorable score by Hans Werner Henze which I wish he would release for orchestra performance as a suite.
