Rhodes is a lengthy and flawed masterpiece but, like Heaven's Gate underestimated on first release. Visually breathtaking and beautifully photographed against the landscape of the Transvaal, it has scenes of great power and movingly prtrays the defeat of a nation. Well worth watching.
