5.0 out of 5 stars Erie masterpiece on a mans fight against a Prozac fueled foe, 19 Feb 2001
By j.e.shimmin@durham.ac.uk (Stockton-on-Tees, England) - See all my reviews
From the title scene to the final episode, Patrick Mcgoohan excels as the sole individual bar his captors, in the too happy collective that is "The Village" His character, "Number 6", I'm pretty sure we never learn his real name, is continually tormented by "The New Number Two's" schemes to integrate him into the lifeless village and to find out why he gave up the secret service. All around him are now broken ex-spies, happy to attend "Big Brother" style public events and all comfortable with the meaningless roles that they have been allotted in their society. Bent on escape to the outside world, his elaborate plans and attempts are usually thwarted by "Rover", the village's very unrealistic bubble, which has the power to locate and suffocate its victim, wherever he is. Never-the-less, Number 6 keeps trying, with the cry of "I'm not a number, I'm a free man" in his heart at all times. Does he ever escape? You'll have to watch to find out, and even then you'll still wonder. An absolute masterpiece, full of original, typically British scenery which Port Merrion so well allows. Buy this set!!!!

Be seeing you.
