This track, a cover of The Beatles song, captures all of the ethereal quality of the original. The haunting song suits Fiona Apples' resonant voice and is a pleasure upon the ears, evoking days of summer and heavy highs. The whimsical and profound are combined in this heartfelt lyric where the heady mixture penetrates the soul. Guess it'd be fair to say I like it! If you dig, then check out the DVD of "Pleasantville". Within the extras accompanying the feature, there contains the promo-video for "Across the Universe". Directed by her beau, P.T Anderson, (Boogie nights, Magnolia) the promo perfectly compliments the song as well as keeping true to the spirit of "Pleasantville".

Many covers are needless additions which do not capture the spirit of the original. Fiona Apple, with "Across the Universe" has not only captured, but added to the melodic charm.
