Product Description

Synopsis

A classic episode of the long running science fiction series, this DOCTOR WHO instalment features the seventh doctor, Sylvester McCoy. The doctor is joined by Mel on a space bus tour to Disneyland, a prize they had won. The space bus becomes deadly when another intergalactic traveller is met, the Chimeron Queen Delta. She is fleeing from Gavrok and his Bannerman who have genocidal ambitions. The doctor and Mel must shield Delta and the child she is hatching from an egg in this intense space drama. The seventh doctor's trademark prop, the umbrella with the handle in a question mark shape makes its first appearance in this episode.

From the Back Cover

The Chimeron homeworld is attacked by Gavrok and his troops - the Bannermen. The sole survivor is the Chimeron Queen Delta, who flees carrying with her the last chance for the future of her race... The Doctor and Mel arrive at a Galactic Tollport, to discover they've won a holiday to Disneyland in 1959, alongside a party of disguised alien Navarinos. Just before they all depart, the tour is joined by Delta, who travels back to Earth.

Absolute class from start to finish. If you want to enjoy your DW, have a laugh, a wild ride and a bit of fun then this is the video for you. Sheer joy it is. If you think DW was meant to be endlessly gritty and that a character who travels the universe in a police box that is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside is a character to be taken deathly seriously then it is definitely meant to be ignored by you. Pure 100% entertainment through and through. Let your hair down!

"Delta & The Bannermen" is simply great fun, with good doses of humour and a lovely period setting. It's not exactly a gritty story and it's relatively small-scale which makes for a refreshing change in the series' format.

Put simply, it's just flamboyantly camp and great fun with it, everybody having a good time. So hard to dislike, I'd recommend this to anybody who wants a thoroughly enjoyable slice of Doctor Who. However, having said that, it probably would end up offending the really tight Doctor Who fan who believes that every story should be deadly serious. Whilst the serious stuff is excellent, it's episodes like this that make them a refreshing change.

If you generally enjoyed Sylvester McCoy's time as the Doctor then you will love this... This is certainly no dud like "Time & The Rani" or "Paradise Towers"... Buy it if you have the chance...

Whilst this 1987 TV serial featuring Sylvester McCoy and Bonnie Langford isn't the series high-point, it's far from being 'the worst Doctor Who story ever made'.
With the likes of Stubby Kaye and Ken Dodd on board, the story does have a pantomime feel at times; Quentin Tarantino could possibly have made them cool but John Nathan-Turner... Well it ain't the same. That aside, the story is fast-paced and fun, with some great 50s and tunes and a few hints that this version of The Doctor ain't all sweetness and light.
