You’re the One is a recording of Paul Simon’s intimate and critically acclaimed Paris concerts. Filmed at two informal venues in the city during October 2000, this live recording features songs stretching from his Simon and Garfunkel days (“Bridge Over Troubled Water”), to tracks such as “That’s Where I Belong” from his more recent You’re the One album. Containing footage shot at two venues on different days the recording is predominantly focused on the stage action. Adding a claustrophobic edge to the show, but reflecting his omnivorous musical tastes and influences, Simon gathers together a diverse array of his multi-cultural musical pals. At times, particularly when the songs are less familiar, the show does drag. Sporting a red baseball cap, and not moving from the same spot on stage for two hours, Simon’s demeanour and vocals do become rather irritating. Perhaps only true fans will appreciate such moments, but as his substantial back-catalogue demonstrates, the real magic resides in his intricate lyrics and rhythm.

On the DVD: although the concert footage is particularly colourful and of excellent quality there are no substantial extras. The audio content is equally outstanding, with the soundtrack available in 5.1 and DTS Surround Sound, and PCM Linear PCM Stereo. Subtitles of the English song lyrics are also available on the disc. --John Galilee

Turn down the lights, turn up the sound and enjoy some of the finest music ever written in this faultless DVD. Paul Simon, backed by a superb band, knocks out tune after tune of sheer genius. The quality of this DVD is top notch as is the wonderful sound transfer and the range of songs from his early years to material from the 'You're The One' album is varied and interesting. If you've never heard of Paul Simon - get it. If you're a lifelong fan - get it. Oh, just get it!

I bought this DVD the other week and havent stopped playing it since. As probably Paul Simons biggest fan ever i couldnt wait for it. The sound quality is incredible. I have a dolby prologic 5.1 TV, you would swear you were at the concert, its unbeliveable. with 120 mins and 24 tracks its well worth the money. I believe Paul Simon is probably one of the greatest song writers ever and there are great versions of one mans ceiling, I am a rock, old friends and the late great johnny ace. The only down point on the DVD (and its a small one) is the version of Kodacrome is brutal, he kind of talks it and it loses its tune. It actaully has a great dictinct tune and it does it no favours. Other than that its a classic. Buy it, turn the telly up and enjoy the master at work.

I'm probably one of the biggest Paul Simon fans around. I was brought up on his music, my parents used to play his LPs constantly while I was still in the womb. So over the years I have amassed a growing collection of old and new material. Paul Simon's work was on a steady rise in popularity back in the late eighties and early nineties but his writing prowess started to wain as he continued to thrash out new material with a now old hat African beats.
This concert gives us some well know tunes and some newer, much blander material and this is where its faults lie. The well known tracks that are so familiar to Simon fans have been tinkered with for this live performance. Trying to sing along to the likes of "Me and Julio..." is just plain irritating as Simon strings out or chops his notes. This is the case for most of my favourite tracks. Not reccommended!
