You'd have to say this is definitely one of the weirdest albums you're ever likely to hear. The songs, ranging from a cover of the theme tune from 70's kids show "Magpie" to, er, "My Friend Jack Eats Sugar Lumps" are strange enough, but they're interspersed with what I suppose you could call poetry. The whole thing is really quite funny and seems to hinge on a kind of innocence evocative of a 70s childhood, but I might be reading too much into it. Really, you have to hear it to believe it.

Pretty odd, but totally marvellous.

SO VERY PRETTY! An astonishing beautifull mix of 60's lounge, musical and-more than anything- toy psychedelia. The sort of listen that gladdens your heart. Excellent, delicate, imaginative music -fresh, original and very interesting. Fantastic to listen when having a cup of tea (morning mania!), driving a 2cv or a mini cooper in the countryside, when it's sunny out of your window, on vacation, when you feel a little happy (or a little sad). Fantastic to listen a lot of times-it refuses to worn-out and become dull and boring. Mind intrigiuing and spirit rising. (same for its twin, 'Lollipop Train').

Were a St Trinians-style Czech arthouse movie ever made, this album would provide the perfect soundtrack. Musically, Death By Chocolate ranges from late '60s psychedelia ('My Friend Jack') and campfire singalong ('If You Want To Sing Out'), to the lush instrumental arrangement of Pete & Dud's 'LS Bumblebee...and the downright weird, but utterly infectious style of 'A,B & C' and 'The Salvador Dali Murder Mystery'. The whole affair is interspersed with little beat-poems, each one based on a different colour. I think it can be safely said that you'll here nothing else like this all year!
