Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
If a musical sci-fi satire about an alien transvestite named Frank-n-Furter, who is building the perfect man while playing sexual games with his virginal visitors, sounds like an intriguing premise for a movie, then you're in for a treat. Not only is The Rocky Horror Picture Show all this and more, but it stars the surprising cast of Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick (as the demure Janet and uptight Brad, who get lost in a storm and find themselves stranded at Frank-n-Furter's mansion), Meat Loaf (as the rebel Eddie), Charles Gray (as our criminologist and narrator) and, of course, the inimitable Tim Curry as our "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania". Upon its release in 1975, the film was an astounding flop. But a few devotees persuaded a New York cinema to show it at midnight, and thus was born one of the ultimate cult films of all time. The songs are addictive (just try getting "The Time Warp" or "Toucha Toucha Touch Me" out of your head), the raunchiness amusing and the plot line utterly ridiculous--in other words, this film is simply tremendous good fun. The downfall, however, is that much of the amusement is found in the audience participation that is obviously missing from a video version (viewers in cinemas shout lines at the screen and use props--such as holding up newspapers and shooting water guns during the storm and throwing rice during a wedding scene). Watched alone as a straight movie, Rocky Horror loses a tremendous amount of its charm. Yet, for those who wish to perfect their lip-synching techniques for movie cinema performances or for those who want to gather a crowd around the TV at home for some good, old-fashioned, rowdy fun, this film can't be beat. --Jenny Brown, Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Damn It, Janet, Buy It!, 12 Nov 2001
By A Customer
This film is one of the all-time classics, with Tim Curry camping it up superbly as the totally unstable Frank N Furter, and Richard O'Brien as Riff Raff, the soundtrack is stonking and the Big Song and Dance Routines are amazing.
Go On, be a sweet transvestite, dance to the time warp and buy this film.
I can only imagine just how great the stage show must be!

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT, 23 April 2001
By A Customer
This is a must for all musical fans. Although different casts have tried their own productions of the stage show nobody will ever live up to the originals. Susan Sarandon (The Client, Thelma & Louise) is a wonderful naive virgin as is Barry Bostwick (Spin City). Richard O'Brien (Ever After, Crystal Maze) is a great Riff Raff (He also wrote the film/stage show) and Patricia Quinne and Little Nell are great as the 'girls'...and who can forget the original and by far the best Dr. Frank N Furter ever, Tim Curry. His performance is spectacular! If you have only seen the show (the actual stage production NOT the midnight showings with the film and a live cast) then you have got to see this film. The songs are infectious and the cast are gorgeous. An excellent film that will remain a classic forever!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Twisted Transylvanian Tale!, 22 Jan 2004
Anyone with a sense of humour and an adoration of bizarre, comically weird fetish stuff should see this! Adapted from the original London stage shows, it's a tale which is inspired by and steals ideas from all the tacky old B-Movies ever made, and yet somehow is completely original and mindblowing!
Brad and Janet (Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick) play a young prudish couple who get stuck in a storm and end up taking shelter at an old castle (as you do). There, a Transylvanian party is taking place, headed by 'Sweet Transvestite' Dr. Frank-N-Furter (a fabulous, totally camp and glittery Tim Curry). He is assisted by Columbia, a high-pitched, tap-dancing groupie; The beautiful Patricia Quinn as Magenta, the ultra-sexy goth maid, and her incestuous brother RiffRaff, the butler. (Played by Richard O'Brien, the creative force behind the Rocky concept.) At the party Frank-N-Furter reveals his creation, the perfect man (Rocky), and then it all goes grotesquely wrong and the underdogs take over, with lots of songs, corsets, flirting, comic-book horror, and a somewhat dubious range of European accents along the way.
This film is pure magic; a totally fantastic, glittery gender-bending fantasy romp and you'll either love it or hate it. Most people love it, and end up doing the Timewarp for disturbing amounts of time afterwards...
