Wes Craven was tempted back to the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, in partnership with writers Bruce Wagner (Wild Palms) and Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption), to script this fun, action-oriented sequel directed by Chuck Russell (The Mask). Langenkamp (as the world's only teenage psychiatrist) and Saxon return, but the heroine is debuting Patricia Arquette, who has the power to pull her friends into her dreams and thus assemble an army to take on Freddy, who begins here to spout those post-death witticisms that became a trademark. A nun reveals the villain's backstory as "the bastard son of a hundred maniacs". It's full of wild images and effects, such as the sleepwalker turned into a puppet strung on his ripped-out veins, and pays homage to Ray Harryhausen with not only an animated Freddy puppet but also his evil, walking skeleton. --Kim Newman

Nancy Thompson, survivor of the Elm Street murders is a psychiatrist brought in to help troubled kids at Westin Hills Psychiatric Hospital. All of these teens have one thing in common, their dreams are being invaded by someone Nancy knows only too well, Freddy Krueger.

After the abomination bore that was A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge, New Line Cinema set about making a better and more truer sequel to 1984's excellent A Nightmare on Elm Street. Recalling series creator Wes Craven, who had bailed after the first film claiming he didn't want a franchise born, and installing the first film's scream queen Heather Langenkamp in a more mature role, New Line meant business. With more budget to hand and Craven aided in the writing by Frank Darabont, Chuck Russell and Bruce Wagner, the end result is arguably the best sequel of what was to become a money spinning franchise.

With a sharp elaborate story focusing on troubled kids, and dealing in themes such as teen suicide, heroin addiction and dream suppressant drugs, all that was needed was authentic location work and the skill to formulate horror sequences worthy of the name. Thankfuly we get both. Some of the disturbing and gruesome methods used by Freddy as he cruelly goes about offing the last of the Elm Street children, are some of the series best. Puppetry, TV and needle point rushes are just a few on offer, while a skeleton sequence harks to the work of one Ray Harryhausen. There's even a nice plot thread involving a nun that puts a bit more meat on Freddie's troubling back story.

But some problems do harm the film. Heather Langenkamp, bless her, was suitably cast in the first film, here she is not.Read more ›

After a average opening movie and tepid sequel finally The Nightmare On Elm Street series gives us a terrific part of the franchise and even though i have yet to see the remaining films in the series this is a exiting,action packed,scary and better acted ANOES movie.

A bunch of teens at a hospital begin to get attacked in their dreams by Freddy Kruger(a wooden but better than before Robert Englund)the nasty disfigured child killer from the previous films.The teens include Kristen(wonderful Patricia Arquette in a movie debut),Phillip(Bradley Gregg)a puppet maker,Kincaid(Ken Sagoes)a short tempered stir pot,wannabe actress Jennifer(Penelope Sudrow),Joey(Rodney Eastman)who is mute after some nasty nightmares,recovering drug addict Taryn(brilliant Jennifer Rubin)and stuck in a wheelchair Will(Ira Heiden)who is bound to the chair after suicide attempts.Kristen calls on a ability for the others to appear in the same dream and with the help of original film heroine Nancy Thompson(Heather Langenkamp)who is now a doctor specializing in dream therapy the kids and Nancy set out to find Kruger and destroy him once and for all but what happens if he splits them up.

This is a very much improved part of a franchise that could of died early on if it wasn't for this third installment that brought sparkle back into the invading dreams plot with hugely improved acting,set pieces and at last genuine frights and humor when its needed.

The acting as i said is much better than before especially from beautiful actress Patricia Arquette as troubled but unique Kristen who gives heart to the franchise and who brings the group together when under extreme strain.Read more ›

I practically grew up on watching "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies. Been watching them ever since I was little. Freddy Krueger is my all-time favourite horror villain. "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors" is probably my personal favourite in the series. It's got a great script, great concept, and it's entertaining as hell. Both chilling and funny, this is a movie to watch if you want a good time.
This particular "Nightmare on Elm Street" has a rather ingenious storyline; possibly the most creative in the series. The "survivors" of Elm Street are slowly falling victim to Krueger's violent rampage one by one (although the deaths are considered "suicides" by the doctors). Only a few remain alive in a psychiatric ward and they all have similar nightmares. They all dream of a man who is horribly scarred and wears a glove with razor blades for fingers. And they know that he is out to get them. However, these aren't your typical survivors. They have special powers and gifts in their dream world that makes them unique and powerful. These gifts and powers may be the only thing that can stop Freddy once and for all, before he murders each and every one of them.
This one was actually co-written by Wes Craven, the man behind the original "Nightmare on Elm Street." It really shows because this one isn't as funny as the later ones. It's more creepy and scary, too. The movie was very well-directed and written. The actors were great and each of them really made the movie work. And of course, you have to give credit to Robert Englund, who really shines as Freddy. There is no way anybody else could play the part. Englund practically made the role his own.
The DVD doesn't have much to offer, but it does look and sound great.Read more ›
