Product Description

Product Description

This sequel to 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' is set five years after the original. The Walsh family have now moved into the house formerly owned by the Thompsons, and it is not long before teenage son Jesse (Mark Patton) is having bad dreams. He and girlfriend Lisa attempt to work out what is happening to him, but before long Jesse becomes convinced that Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) has taken over his body in order to continue his murderous rampage.

From Amazon.co.uk

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge was a quick follow-up no one was exactly happy with. However this deserves some credit for trying to extend rather than repeat the original storyline. As opposed to the resourceful heroines of all the other Elm Street films, this is the one about the troubled male teenager worried that Freddy is out to possess his body and make his way back to reality. It's shot through with a heavy handed gay subtext, with male bodies ogled and sliced (for a change), stuck with a few truly ridiculous moments (the exploding budgie) and lapses into incoherence, but it opens with a great school bus sequence and makes the most of the infernal boiler room of Freddy's soul. With Clu Gulager and Hope Lange. Directed by Jack Sholder (The Hidden). -- Kim Newman

Oft dismissed as nothing more than keeping the franchise alive on the road to part 3, Freddy's Revenge is actually worthy of some recognition within the Elm Street series. Released largely to cash in on the success of the first and boost the bank accounts of the then fledgling New Line Cinema, NOES 2 does suffer from a skeletal script and some wooden acting, but it does at least stand out as a step forward in the storyline development.
Rather than the standard 'rehash of the original' flick we normally see in sequels (see Halloween parts 2, 4, 5 etc.), director Jack Sholder and crew preside over a story that sees Fred attempting to possess a young teenager and therefore have free reign to kill in the 'real' world again. What is perhaps most interesting about this film though, is the break from horror tradition it makes. The genre's dependence on large breasted female victims and heroines is abandoned in favour of a storyline littered with gay and sexual subtext - in one seen the school coach is dragged into the showers, tied up, stripped and whipped before being despatched - in another Jesse runs to his handsome jock friends bedroom after a failed sexual encounter with his girlfriend. Perhaps not to everyones taste, but it does mark a breath of 'fresh air' in a genre too often reliant on cliches.
The direction too is worthy of note. It's not exactly cutting edge, but there is a palpable sense of tension throughout most of the film (sadly occasionally broken by shoddy effects / bad scripting) and Sholder wisely continues in Craven's vain by keeping Fred to the shadows and his script minimal.

A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge is the runt of the Elm Street litter. It was unfortunate to be the sequel to a landmark horror film, a film that birthed one of the ultimate horror icons whilst having at its core a terrifying premise. A premise that was superbly executed by all involved in the first film. Part 2 bravely tried to advance the bogeyman story to another level, to one of possession, which in hindsight was a mistake.

There's also the mixed tonal flow and confused intents that hamper the pic. Whilst the young members of the cast are too blank to garner the required amount of sympathy to get us to care about their plight, especially lead lad Mark Patton as Jesse Walsh. However, there is still a lot to like here, some striking imagery grabs the attention and it is not without some unnerving scares.

The debates about what metaphors the makers were going for still exist, and that homo-erotic sheen is never going to go away, but even though it's an average Elm Street movie, it's not as dreadful as it was first painted. 5/10

The first is average i must admit but the sequel is truly terrible with it so campy it makes the 60's Batman look serious by comparison and i have to say there were some top moments in the first but anything that is remotely like that in this is ruined by a dreadful camp feel.

Again more teenagers are stalked by Freddy Kruger(a poor Robert Englund)in their dreams including Jesse(Mark Patton) and his crush Lisa(beautiful Kim Myers who is the sole good thing about this dross). As once again Jesse,Lisa and their friends nightmares get worse Kruger decides to try a new tactic and uses Jesse's body as a gateway to the real world and plans on doing his killings that way.Can Jesse and Lisa stop this nightmare intruder before he destroys the real world.

This is a huge let down and any hopes that the sequel could improve on the poor things from the original are lost with a ridiculous follow up that somehow out camps the first by 100% with Englund so poor and non funny that any sign of set pieces and frights are lost by a constant tone of stupidness with plenty of scenes that are pathetic even for a horror movie(even though it could pass for a spoof).

The main two actors are pretty good especially the sublime Kim Myers who should of gone on to bigger roles as her Lisa is the only good thing about this disaster and is a big improvement over Nancy from the original as we a kind and caring girl who does everything she can to save her pals especially Jesse.Talking of Jesse Mark Patton plays him well enough but goes down hill rapidly when the Kruger taking over his body part begins and then i found him too silly and any love between him and Lisa loses it power to care about it,he was very good at the beginning.

The second nightmare movie "Freddy's Revenge" is on it's own quite a good, sometimes scary movie, but when compared to the other movies in the series it is a big downfall. I was really disappointed when I first saw this movie because I expected it to be a whole lot better than it is, but when you watch it a couple of times it gets better.
The storyline: Basically, a boy and his family move into the same house that Nancy lived in a few years after the first movie. The boy has a dream that he gets possessed by Freddy, and he starts having dreams that Freddy is killing his friends, but when he wakes up he realises it was him. He slowly starts turning into Freddy and he can't control himself. The only person who can save him is his girlfriend, but can she do it before he kills her???
Overall, a good movie if your a fan of the series, but if not don't bother with it.
