Amazon.co.uk Review
The second season of Farscape expands upon and develops the characters introduced in the ambitious first season. John Crichton's new nemesis is the deadly Scorpius, replacing Crais who has taken the living ship Moya's offspring on a voyage into the unknown. Moya's regular crew--Aeryn, Zhaan, Chiana, D'Argo and Rygel--remain as divided and suspicious of each other as ever, yet somehow manage to pull together at times of crisis. After revelations about Pilot's introduction to Moya in "The Way We Weren't", the writers continue to exploit the show's gift for surprising as well as emotionally convincing character development. The CGI effects, prosthetics and state-of-the-art puppetry, courtesy of Jim Henson's Creature Shop, continue to make Farscape the most original looking sci-fi show on TV. The witty scripts, peppered with post-modern pop culture references and movie in-jokes, are also a breath of fresh air. The result is episodic TV sci-fi that continually pushes at the accepted boundaries of the genre.

On the DVD: the four episodes included here are all distinguished by ambitious storytelling, somewhat let down in the execution. In "Picture if You Will", an old enemy returns with a truly bizarre and barely comprehensible scheme to imprison Moya's crew inside a picture (shades of Dorian Gray maybe?). "Home on the Remains" has a contrived plot that harks right back to classic Star Trek, with Crichton even quoting Jim Kirk (the highlight, though, is Zhaan's transformation, which gives a whole new meaning to hay fever). Both "Dream a Little Dream" and "Out of Their Minds" play around with the crew's perceptions of reality--the former is a curious flashback episode set in between the first and second season, as Zhaan is put on trial for murder on a dystopian planet run by lawyers; the second plays body-swap with the crew, with everyone obviously having fun pretending to be everyone else (the aliens, however, look like leftovers from The Dark Crystal). DVD extras include a handful of deleted scenes, a DVD-ROM screensaver and yet another photo gallery. --Mark Walker

4.0 out of 5 stars Getting better, 14 Feb 2001
By amadgwick@hotmail.com (Guildford, Surrey) - See all my reviews
At the end of the first series, Farscape was begining to get good however the start of the second series was persoanlly a bit of let down however it seeems that the makers of Farscape have got things together and as the episodes progress, the better the second series becomes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Far from perfect, 1 Jul 2004
Farscape is superior to much that is on the TV these days, with amazing creativity being equalled by the characterisation and visuals...

...at least it's like that most of the time. There are three seasons of greatness to represent farscape, and although the 2nd season does touch those dizzying heights in individual episodes and moments, the season has a whole is wobbly. Especially in this DVD boxset.

Picture if you will feels shabby, with the characterisation of Zhann in particular at an all time low.

Bone on the Remains is just a dud episode full stop. It's boring and badly thought out.

Out of their minds is alot better, however whereas the cast seem to relish playing each other, the actor who voices Rygel clearly has no idea of what he's doing in these other roles and is thus extremely poor - not enough to ruin the episode, but close.

The saviour of the disc is Dream a little Dream, origianlly envisaged as the season opener, but perhaps a little too sedate for that. It sees great performances by Virginia Hey and Gigi Edgely as Zhann is put on trial for her life after being set up for murder. It's a riviting episode throughout.

Overall, even Farscape at its lowest standard is alot more entertaining than alot of things you'll see on TV, but if you want just one boxset of Farscape, there are many many better ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth watching, 2 April 2002
While not of the same high-drama style as "The Way We Weren't" (Vol.1 Season 2), both "Dream A Little Dream" and "Out Of Their Minds" are both very entertaining episodes.

Having recently viewed all episodes of Farscape from the beginning up to this DVD (Vol.2 Season2), I have to say that I have yet to find another series (science fiction or not) that has the same appeal and wide range of acting that I have seen on this series. Admittedly some episodes are weaker than others, but this is more than made up for by the stronger ones.

Long may it continue!
