Amazon.co.uk Review
The secret ingredient that made Ready 2 Rumble Boxing so popular with both avid gamers and budding gaming enthusiasts was the likeable yet outlandish assortment of characters. In Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Round 2, the formula is repeated by adding as many as a dozen new characters, with Shaquille O'Neal, Freke Deke, Robox RE SE4, Johnny Blood, Mama Tua and even reclusive pop star Michael Jackson leading the wacky pack of fictional and semifictional boxers.

A few of your favourite characters from the first game return in Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2, which features updated, customisable costumes. Each character also has his or her own special moves, including a bounce in the female boxers that mimics the real-life gravitational forces at play that are found in the female characters in Tecmo's Dead or Alive.

In terms of gameplay, Sega has gone back to the gym and reworked the Championship mode. This time around, your fighting schedule is based around a calendar of matches, as opposed to being based solely on your prize winnings. As you win your way through the championship mode, new gym equipment will be available for you to use to build your skills. Some new training events have been added, including stair climbing and rope jumping.

The most interesting part of the Championship mode includes the addition of a wrestling-style backstory that sees backstage shenanigans and feuds between the fighters. The new Team Battle mode lets you choose up to eight team members for an actual rumble with an opposing group of pugilists from the game. Several new camera angles have been added, which ups the total number to nine. Also, players can expect to suffer from computer-generated blurry vision after one too many blows to the head. As a result of these additions, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2 should be a knockout (pun most certainly intended of course). --Todd Mowatt

Product Description
Has the King of Pop become the Prince of Pugilism? As a sequel to 1999's surprise knockout, Ready 2 Rumble: Round 2 features Michael Jackson alongside NBA heavyweight Shaquille O'Neal and a mix of new and returning contestants for some over-the-top fisticuffs. The game combines authentic boxing action with outrageous costumes, special moves, taunts and rumble flurries that are all unique to each character. Throw some quick jabs in the arcade mode or do it Rocky-style via the enhanced championship mode, where you will manage your boxer's training regimen and schedule fights. Adding to the realism are photographers, corner men with spit buckets, beautiful ring girls that announce each new round and Michael Buffer with his famous "Let's get ready to rumble!" call

4.0 out of 5 stars A Hilarious Boing Game, 19 Jul 2001
This game is worth buying... There are loads of secret characters some of which are celebrities e.g. Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan. There are 4 game modes -1. Arcade mode Play against 12 different boxers to challange Rumbleman. 2.Tounament enter yourself and up to 8 friends into a tournament to see who is the best at the game. 3. Team Battle u and a friend choose up to 8 characters each a have a big team battle. 4. Championship mode your boxer buys a gym and u have to compete in prize fights and championship fights to improve your gym u also have to train your boxer which is really cool. This is a great game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable boxing game, 28 Feb 2001
By wombat (Spain) - See all my reviews
Having played and enjoyed R2R on the dreamcast, I was looking forward to R2R2 on the PS2, graphically the game differs from R2R on dreamcast in several ways, the standard camera is closer to the action, giving o three quarter view of your boxer, whilst initially annoying, it really doesn't alter the feel of the game at all.

Secondly, the backgrounds are more detailed on the PS2, however this is no Tekken, and so much more could have been done within the graphics deptartment in general.

Thirdly the additional characters. Michael Jackson and Bill and Hilary Clinton are simply outrageous. Michael Jacksons gravity defying taunt providing plenty of laughs for first timers. Heres hoping Midway include "Curious" Bush in R2R3. Come to think of it, Hussein and Arafat would make prime contenders as well.

The changes in the championship mode barely make a difference to the feel of the game and once again R2R is great for playing against a friend, although if theres one fault with the game that truly annoys it is the inability to succesfully defend the novice who throws the same "fast" but light punch in a frenzy of virtua athlete, carpal tunnel inducing thumb masochism. Then again this is one of the better techniques for defeating the end of level freak.

Not a sim, and doesn't suffer for it, the most enjoyable boxing game on any platform for the time being.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ouch., 1 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Midway have done well at producing a realistic boxing game within R2R2. I would, however, suggest some improvements if a third sequel were to be made. Especially in Championship mode. But I enjoy playing this game with friends, especially when they don't know the buttons!

Top head pounding action!
