Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The Sugababes' outstanding debut album, One Touch, shines through like a beacon in the morass of bland, indistinguishable girl-group pap that is being released with alarming frequency at the end of the 20th century. "Overload"--one of the finest singles of 2000--was a surprise hit for the young band, and proof that while record companies may spend millions marketing their "next big things", inevitably the good will out. The Sugababes are a girl group of the old school, invoking a sound and attitude reminiscent of the Shangri-Las or the Ronettes, striking the perfect balance between attitude and innocence--the same qualities that made the All Saints' debut album so impressive. Of course, "Overload" is here, and it's still their best song. And the second half of the album is a bit patchy. But tracks like the catchy "Soul Sound", the funky "One Foot In" and the ballad "Look At Me" all provide ample proof that One Touch is an altogether impressive debut. --Robert Burrow

5.0 out of 5 stars Old-school meets the 21st century! Suga-style, 21 Jan 2001
I bought this album when it was first released in November of last year and i still listen to it continuously. Kicking off with the instantly recognisable "Overload" this insanely infectious choon sets the pace for the album. Standout tracks are "One foot in", "Same old story", "Promises", "Run for cover" and the latest single "New year" but unfortunately at the center of the album something goes wrong, "Soul sound" and "Lush life" are nothing compared to some of the others, but the girls make up for this with the final tracks. The Sugababes had best get the attention and chart positions they deserve because i've got a feeling they're gonna be around for a very long time. They write and perform most of their own tracks, and all at only 16. So move over All Saints, Spice Girls and Destiny's Child because Sugagabes are here, doing it the UK way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stylish, Sexy, Stunning.......... SUGABABES, 2 Jan 2001
By A Customer
'One Touch' is the debut album from Britain's finest pop/r&b/soul album in years. With the maximum age of the girls at 16, these girls have a bright future ahead of them if this album is anything to go by. 'One Touch' combines amazing vocal ability with purely outstanding tracks. Kicking off with the fantastic debut single Overload, the songs just keep getting better and better. One foot in sounds like something from Destinys Child, where Same Old Story just explodes with garage. The tempo slows down in the next three tracks, which is where, in my opinion, the Sugababes really shine. Just Let It Go, Look at Me and Soul Sound talk about Independance from Parents and Moving on from Heartache. Simply superb! The title track One Touch does not quiet shine as much as the others, as does Lush Life, but are still strong. But things pick up again with the fast & funky Real thing, and the sexy, sultry and sassy New Year ( which was the Xmas single.) Promises is slightly spooky at times, particularly due to the vocal style of the girls. But still excellent. The final song, Run for Cover is completely different. Combining pianos and strings in an up-tempo, this song shows that Sugababes really do have the potential to go on and be the Next Spice Girls. All in all, this album just leaves you dazzled. Perhaps the most noticable thing on the album is the class of the girls themselves. They're not miming, and smiling cheesily at the cameras, but are sexy, sophisticated and sultry. As they say in New Year, they really are 'older than their years.' One Touch combines pop, soul and R&B in a unique and outstanding new sound. They are the polished version of All Saints, and with the right publicity and radio play, can be the next Spice Girls. Their music is 100 times better than any band around and in time will get the recognition it deserves. I simply can not speak highly enough of this album. Go buy it, if you are rading this, and see if you agree. I'm sure you will!

5.0 out of 5 stars Suga Overload!!!!!, 3 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This isnt your typicall pop album with no ballads and terribal upbeats eg- Hear'say.
I found this album very enjoyable with the brillent bass and the 'rocky' sounds.
There are many stand out tracks inluding one touch and the haunting promises.
A cd i pick out to play a lot, it includes the hits overload, new year, run for cover and soul sound.
