Amazon.co.uk Review
Christopher Lambert stars in Fortress 2, a straight-to-video sequel to the 1992 original. You just know it's gonna be good. Here he reprises his role as John Brennick, former leader of the Resistance and thorn in the side of the Men-Tel Corporation. In the first movie, Brennick escaped from and destroyed Men-Tel's high-tech "inescapable" prison. In the 10 years since then, he's gotten himself a house in the woods and some horses, and has illegally procreated with his wife. When Resistance members find him and try to recruit him back into the cause, the bad guys are not far behind, and after some two-dollar action scenes he finds himself captured and thrown into MEN-TEL's brand-new prison, which happens to be orbiting the Earth. Surely, nobody could ever escape from this! Except maybe, just maybe John Brennick! The plot is even more predictable than the placement of the co-ed shower scenes, to the point that you can practically quote the dialogue before it's spoken, with the only surprises being which cliché they're going to use, and when. (By the way, these violent prisoners are actually being used to build and modify the satellite they're imprisoned in.) Pam Grier has an embarrassing cameo as the owner of MEN-TEL, and the dignity she tries to bring to the role is entirely out of place. The only fun to be had is if you watch it as if you're watching a bunch of adults play "action film", making for a strange entertainment, indeed. --Andy Spletzer, Amazon.com

1.0 out of 5 stars Weak and poor follow up to a great film, 22 April 2001
By A Customer
When I saw Fortress 2 was coming to a cinema in London last year, I couldnt wait for the national release so I could see the follow up to the sci-fi classic 'Fortress'. It didnt come..so I waited for the DVD. Now I know why!

The idea was great, a prison in space, run by evil corporate giant the Mentel Corporation. The film was poor to say the least. Lambert was good again, but the plot was about as deep and intriguing as a porno film. It was, just ever so slightly, predictable. Sets were awful as well (reminiscent of Dr.Who and Blakes 7 in the 70s BBC sci-fi series).

The ending was absolutely terrible. I think they ran out of film...or money...or interest. It was all going swimmingly, major prison rebellion etc, the tension was rising...then...a quick airlock scene and it cut to a hug welcoming Lambert home. The end.

A great opportunity to build on a great idea and classic first edition that was entirely missed.

3.0 out of 5 stars So Bad, Its Good..., 7 Feb 2001
By A Customer
I watched this film half knowing I wasn't expecting much. I Quite enjoyed the the first one'Fortress'. I have to admit to being a bit of a fan of cheesy B grade sci-fi,it seems to have a charm all of its own. The film has quite a good premise, this time the prison is in space, supposedly making it more difficult to escape..erm..ya. Our Hero lambert escapes in 89 minutes. Anyways.Don't expect much. Only watch if your a lambert fan or like the original. Its funny in places. But basically its so bad its good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Someone left the "Acting" section of film making at home, 27 Feb 2001
ok. To sum Fortress 2 up quickly - A dodgey plot and average screen play is acted out badly by a man who is really capable of much better.

But having said that it is a greatly enjoyable film. As the review above says, this film falls in to that catagory of movie (along with Star Gate, and Hudson Hawk) which is actually so abismally bad, that it is great to watch. If you want top quality sci-fi action look elsewhere. If you're looking for a bit of fun Fortress 2 is where its at.
