Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Backstreet Boys' previous outing Millennium was a tough act to follow, combining as it did the storming pop of "Larger Than Life" and the sublime balladry of "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely". Black & Blue is a worthy successor, if a slightly more mature sound for the boys. There is plenty of up-tempo pop, such as the catchy advice dished out on "Get Another Boyfriend", and the slinky beat-riddled R&B of "Shining Star", nicely balanced with some smooth ballads--you can almost hear the lighters sparking up as the Spanish guitar gently plucks away on "I Promise You (With Everything I Am)". However, it's when they take up immediately where "Millennium" left off that they are at their strongest--"The Answer To Our Life" and "Not For Me" form a sturdy bridge from their previous output, onwards to the future. If this is the state of things to come, the future is decidedly rosy for AJ, Nick, Brian, Kevin and Howie. --Helen Marquis

CD Description

The title of this album by the mega-platinum boy band mightconceivably refer to the emotional state conveyed in some of the songs. While there are the requisite pledges of undying love ("Shining Star", "I Promise You"), several of the tunes on BLACK & BLUE deal with romantic turbulence, such as the opening track "The Call" and the vengeful "Get Another Boyfriend". While some of the songs are unsurprisingly providedby teen pop maestro Max Martin, several selections here were written by the Backstreet Boys themselves, proving conclusively that they have more creative input into their music than their naysayers might suggest. The production on BLACK & BLUE is a mix of pop, R&B, and mainstream hip-hop elements; the building blocks of any successful 2000 teen pop affair. And of course, its all topped off with the Boys' trademark sugar-sweet vocal harmonies.

This is a must for any Backstreet Boys fan. It will be sure to shock you all with its mixture of upbeat and slow tempo songs this album is one that once you start playing it you will not be able to turn it off. Songs such as "The Call" and "Everyone" will get anyone in the mood for dancing where as songs such as "What makes you different" and "Time" will get you in the mood for love.So what ever your taste in music this album has it all what u waiting for it is a must have!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A quality collection, 11 May 2003
Another high-quality release which shows off the enormous vocal talents of the phenomenon that is the Backstreet Boys. “Black and Blue” sees the Boys sticking to what they do best – beautiful ballads with rich harmonies like “Shape of my Heart” and “More Than that” with the occasional energetic pop piece such as “The call” thrown in for good measure. This album comes together nicely, perhaps not their best release because there’s not so many classics as previous albums, but still well worth a listen and something you will no doubt play again and again. It is proof that the Backstreet Boys have got better with age and are more than merely a boyband- they are a strong vocal harmony group who can put together one cracker of an album!
