Get the full clarity of digital sound with Creative Labs SoundWorks Digital 2.1 speaker set. Creative Labs have a full range of speaker systems, from basic desktop speaker sets, all the way to complete Dolby Digital surround sound systems. The SoundWorks Digital speakers are designed to offer the best quality sound from a three set speaker set.

The SoundWorks Digital system is based on the FPS2000 speaker set, but offers more powerful satellite speakers with 8 watts RMS each and a more powerful sub woofer that offers 22 watts RMS. Each satellite comes with a basic stand and wall mounting kit and the whole set has a good-looking black finish.

All the inputs and output are fitted to the subwoofer. Input wise it takes a standard 3.5mm phone jack plus a digital coaxial S/PDIF. The digital input is the big attraction, as it offers the best clarity sound from any sound card that has a S/PDIF coaxial output. The speakers even come with a coaxial output back plate that lets you add the required S/PDIF output to a standard Creative Sound Blaster Live! Player card.

Sound wise, the speakers perform admirably, are well balanced and plenty loud enough to fill a large room with music. As always with SoundWorks satellites they provide excellent highs and good midrange, while the subwoofer is balanced enough that low bass mixes almost seamlessly with the satellites.

You may be dismissive of the advantages of the digital input but we found there were improvements in music quality and a reduction in hiss. There are louder desktop speakers available such as the Sirocco range from VideoLogic, but at this price range the quality and volume of sound from the SoundWork Digital is hard to beat.--Nick Baxter

I was astounded with the sound quality offered by this package. A subwoofer and two satellites, which were connected to a friend's Toshiba DVD SP/DIF coax output. The connecting coax cable was supplied in the box too - which is great - no messing around having to head out to an audio shop. The whole set up took less than five minutes to unpack and set up. Two 3.5mm stereo inputs are also available - I didn't hear them in use - but these can be used to attach an additional two analogue sources to the speakers.

Sound quality was exceptional - I've never heard of a "hi-fi" upgrade costing so little having such an impact. The addition of the speakers to the DVD/TV combination added real involvement to the DVDs, the sound being rich and fulfilling adding a lush warmth and depth to the movie experience. I can highly recommend these for any film or music lover who is disappointed or unsatisfied with the sound coming from their TV.

I have used these speakers for watching DVD movies and can honestly say without a dought that the sound qualtity will instantly put you in the film. Such is the sound realism and quality of this system that you will wonder why you ever thought your old speakers were good. Easy to set up, comprehensive to use. Take one look at the price and laugh, can this be true, sure is!

I just bought these speakers (05/08/02), and I am blown away by the sound. My parents have immediately demonstrated the fact that the bass makes the whole house vibrate, and therefore I must not use it while they are here! The volume is almost too high at 1/3 power - so no worries on that sccore. There is none of the tinnyness and case vibration that you get with cheap speakers - the only thing vibrating is the pen on my desk! If in doubt, I would recommend these above all else. They are most definately worth the money.
