2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing yet full.., 2 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Whilst the musical genius of Patxi Pascual (the saxophonist in Azar Al Hai from Sudaniyat, Rasha's first album) is very evident throughout the album, Let Me Be is not in the same league as Sudaniyat. In terms of music, the traditional richness so prevalent in Sudaniyat is missing and has been sacrificed to create an egocentric rendition of confusion and conflict. Memorable songs include Tumader, Blue Sudan Blues and Ash'ab. As for the other songs, their lyrics profess pain, longing and detachment. Let Me Be pales in comparison to Sudaniyat and even to Kambala, the first album Rasha produced with her brother. A nice mixture of musical styles and languages (Arabic, Spanish and English) are used in the album and Rasha's soulful voice singing in Spanish is very captivating and a nice addition to the album.
