4.0 out of 5 stars A good action film, 4 Aug 2003
By Peter Brooks "Permarbor" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As an action thriller fan, I really enjoyed this movie, with all of its impressive special effects and martial arts fight scenes. The storyline, too, definitely lived up to the class of its predecessor.

However, I was disappointed with the fact that it was blatantly obvious from the start who the villain was. The first film kept the viewer guessing, dropping subtle hints as to the identity of the bad guy, whereas this one got straight down to business, making the character played by Dougray Scott seem secondary to the fight scenes in which he was involved.

This gave me the feeling that John Woo was simply using this film as a premise from which to demonstrate his skill in the art of martial arts choreography, which, I hasten to add, is considerable. However, some of these fight scenes definitely last for too long, dampening ther overall effect, which is a pity, because some of the moves contained in them are simply breathtaking.

Don't get me wrong, this is a good film, but it contains too much fighting and not enough intelligent dialogue for my liking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why all the bad press?, 5 Mar 2001
By A Customer
I thought this movie was brilliant. I cant understand why its had such bad reviews by the critics. I thought it was better the the first one. At times the storyline was a litle hard to follow but it was brilliant. Buy it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Considering the resources this film is an insult to cinema, 19 Dec 2000
Question: what criteria should be used for judging the worst film ever? Surely it must be the gap between what could have been made and what is actually produced. Tom Cruise starred, John Woo directed, and Robert Towne scripted this utter rot. There is only a token plot, the acting (especially Dougray Scott) is without charisma or talent and John Woo has his three main characters spinning from one pointless action set piece to another. It's even too dull to be one of those 'it's so bad it's entertaining' films (Amageddon, Con Air etc). Worst movie ever? It must be a contender. Avoid like the plague.
