5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!, 8 Sep 2004
The Gogs was a series of plastacine animations from the mid 1990's about a family of cavemen. I remember the series as being essential after pub television when I was at college, and snapped the DVD up as soon as I saw it was available. The DVD has every 10 minute episode from series 1 and 2, and Gogwana, which is a full length movie...of sorts.

We see the gogs blunder through the prehistoric world of flesh eating dinosaurs, storms volcanoes, deserts. On the way they invent wall paintings, discover fire, lose fire, build stonehenge and generally get in a disgusting mess.

It really is hilarious (check out the kung fu fighting dinosaur)and anyone can enjoy it,unless you want witty intellegent dialogue. If you do you'll be dissapointed as the communication is limited to pointing, grunting, yelling and hitting one another over the head with clubs.

In short, if you like plastacine animation, slapstick violence and toilet humour this is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Toilet Humour For The Masses, 14 Oct 2001
By A Customer
The Gogs- "What?!?!?" I hear you say?
put simply, whilst other controversial programmes such as South park and long running, critically acclaimed Beavis & Butthead have stolen the limelight for this type of genre, it was the gogs that first got me interested in television of the "not-so-serious" kind. For those who have never heard of the Gogs, you wouldn't be alone- the (in my opinion) under-rated plasticene 10 minute show was aired a couple of years ago prime time on BBC2- there may have been repeats, i'm not sure but the originals went largely un noticed.

In truth, the Wallace and Gromit style presentation of the characters in The Gogs, put lots of people off, dismissing it as a childrens programme. Which couldn't be further from the point.

The small caveman family have been reproduced in plasticene along with their locations, it seems like a weird equation, but Cavemen + Plasticene + Toilet Humour = extremely good fun.

Like South Park? My bets is you would love this.

Why only 4 stars? well there will always be people who don't like this type of material, and also the programmes themselves were all too short. The DVD itself in my opinion is an essential piece of comedy, worthy of anyones money, but i don't suppose i speak for everyone. It does exactly what it says on the box- Every episode.... Missed it on TV? give it a try now, you will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love slapstick? Then you'll love this., 30 Sep 2005

(REAL NAME)
Plasticine violence. Can't beat it.

Gogs was brought out on BBC2 I don't know how long ago but it is a wonderful piece of stupid humour following a family of cavemen and their quest for food and shelter.

People get hit on the head a lot, they get chased a lot and fart a lot. And if you liked the beans scene from Blazing Saddles then you'll like this.

The missing star is because it can be a bit samey - there is limited scope for hitting people with clubs - and the DVD menu is non-existent, meaning that it's appallingly un-userfriendly. You have no idea how many episodes are on there and just have to keep flicking through them all until you find the one that you want.
