5.0 out of 5 stars A Great British band, 26 Jan 2001
By Simon Uglow "suglow" (Wirral, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Procol Harum were probably very unfortunate in one sense - their best known and most loved song was their first hit (Whiter Shade of Pale), and it takes pole position here. How to follow a song like that? Well, Homburg was the follow-up, and as the excellent liner notes will tell you, it only sold a mere million copies - and was regarded as a flop! This collection of tracks from the early part of Procol Harum's history makes excellent listening - Gary Brooker's voice has always sent shivers down my spine, it is so distinctive. Worth noting is the guitar work - Robin Trower cutting his teeth before moving on to well deserved solo success. This is a terrific compilation of tracks from one of the greatest British bands of all time - and a band who are only ever remembered for one song. Buy it!!
