4.0 out of 5 stars Yes, there is life after this live one, 16 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Ronnie lane's music is everything but suicidal and yet, listening to Live in Austin you can't help thinking they must have a mighty good time on the other side with Ronnie, Rory, and Jimi to quote but a few of these musicians who personify total dedication to life and music with such a deep sense of humanity. This CD has obviously been compiled by people who love the man as much as his music and it shows. All the numbers are previously unreleased and the 24 page book that comes along gives detailed informations about each of the 26 tracks. Another exciting aspect of "Live in Austin" is the rawness of the recording: it's not over-produced (although the quality of the soundtakes is excellent) and you are given the genuine feeling of witnessing "buddy can you spare a dime" building up before your very ears.Although a non-Lane composition this track, very seldom offered live, exemplifies how Ronnie's voice and arrangements can revamp this old Depression song popularized by Bing Crosby. As bonuses there are lots of chats and an hilarious phone call with Ian Mc Lagan. This album is a must for those of you who love Ronnie's music and for those of you who don't know him yet but who believe that goodness can be (re)incarnated in those small light and sound particles that come and visit you when you're down and out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Boot up the Bum" for all, 14 Mar 2001
By A Customer
It is very easy to overlook the impact Ronnie Lane had on British music, and it is a shame he is often fogotten. This CD is nothing short of brilliance. It shows a great song writer and performer, it also shows the human side of a man getting on with life and participating fully despite his illness.

The music is great, the recordings very clear and the musicianship outstanding. What we have here is an album of great songs played with passion, yes there are mistakes but they add to the experience, this is music as it should be intimate and raw not polished and clinical as so much is today. There is hardly a bad song on here and the record label should be applauded for putting this material out - please there must be more.

The between song banter allows a brief insight into the man himself and shows a funny intelligent bloke enjoying himself. If you like this album check out Ian McLagans stuff, again great stuff - as always you can't beat good songs and good performers...take note bubblegum pop bands everywhere, you will be found out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Ronnie, 30 Jan 2006
By I. S. Leslie "ivan leslie" (uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I only discovered ronnie via "the passing show" recently aired on BBC.A passing interest in him as an ex Small Face quickly became a voyage of discovery. How i overlooked him for all these years i'll never know but now i'm making up for it and "Live IN Austin" is a great place for anybody to start.Ronnie's voice may have almost gone and he couldn't play but that fact just serves to highlight ronnie's real talent----bringing joy to all who listen.Talk about finding the "X-Factor" on tv talent shows---Ronnie Had the"XXX-factor" and here stripped of most of his physical talents we get pure undiluted XXX Ronnie Lane heart and soul!!!

I'm collecting the rest of his stuff and have some which is all great but as i said this album contains the essence of Ronnie Lane.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure brilliance from a sadly missed gentleman
Listen to this and laugh and weep. This is simply magical.
Ronnie could project the spectrum of emotions in a masterful style and they're all here.
