This all-too-brief collection of Pete and Dud in 'Not only but Also' illustrates Cook's brilliant, surreal humour, and his exquisite wordplay, suggesting that he was the true heir to Spike Milligan's comic genius.
The classic track is 'The Ravens' and Cook as Sir Arthur Streeb Greebling admitting the failure of his life's work, namely to teach ravens to fly underwater.
In 'The Psychiatrist' Cook sends up British reserve and the inability of people to express themselves directly and say what they mean.
Another favourite is 'The Art Gallery' which satirises responses to art in a popular culture.
The one classic missing from this collection is 'Tramponuns' which is also one of the few surviving video tapes. (available on the BBC video of their sketches)
The pair had an untold influence on successive generation of comedians in the UK,not least on Griff Rhys Jones and Mel Smith, who duplicated the two men having a heart-to heart sketch,
but with less subtlety and a good deal less inventiveness.

Much has been said about the genius of Peter Cook and his contribution to 60s comedy with Dudley Moore but this CD allows you to hear the humour without need for any analysis. Some tracks like 'Lengths' are a little dated but there are more timeless tracks like 'Art Gallery' and 'Father & Son' to more than make up for that. The clever wordplay, the subtle pushing at the BBCs boundaries the out and out belly laughs - this has them all. If you don't have any Peter & Dud in your collection you need this. Buy it, listen to it and worship at the alter of greatness.

I bought this CD because of one particular sketch called " The Psychiatrist", which is hilarious. I was pleasantly surprised to see other nice jokes on it too.
