Jane Austen - one of the world's greatest novelists. And also, like most young ladies of her time, a reasonably accomplished if rather reluctant pianist. This CD brings music actually held in private collecion of Jane's parents, performed as it might have been in her day, and with relevant short passages from her novels and letters.
About the Artist
Concert Royal was one of Britain's earliest "authentic-instrument" ensembles. Formed in the early 1970s, the group has retained its original membership to this day.

With the assistance of an award from the Arts Council, the group set about researching and performing several of the secular chamber cantatas which were written for solo voice and small ensemble in the eighteenth century. They have a wide repertoire of works from this period.
Concert Royal are:
Margarette Ashton (soprano) Peter Harrison (baroque flutes) Rachel Gray (cello) and John Treherne (harpsichord).
