5.0 out of 5 stars Furious fun, instantly playable, 19 Nov 2002

I bought this game a while ago and I'm surprised no-one has reviewed it yet. This is a great little game. Not technically on a par with todays' games, but a lot easier to get the hang of than a "Janes" simulation or the planes in Battlefield 1942 and Operation Flashpoint. So if you're looking for accurate flight dynamics, loads of cotrols to fiddle with and an ejector seat; you've picked the wrong game.

You get to fly three different aircraft through the course of the campaign which takes you through 5 different environments. The graphics and level designs are not that special, but there is enough detail to make a believeable and rewarding experience. Fly low and fast over the hills to avoid enemy fire and test your nerve.

With the vast and almost comical array of weapons; It's a bit too easy to shoot down enemy 'planes and rocket attack bunkers from miles away, but fly too close to the AA guns and you're toast. You can also whack the plane on the ground a bit without exploding at the slightest touch.

The weapons are good fun and you're rewarded for long life by collecting power-ups - 2 machine guns become four, then 2 cannons, then 4 cannons of full-on armor stripping hellfire. Torpedoes are a blast too, just fire and forget.

There's a great propeller whine when you dive directly at the ground, but the altitude ceiling is a little to low to use this technique effectively.

I found it easiest to fly and fight with the pinpoint accuracy of my mouse, but you might prefer a joystick.

I really liked this game, it was easy to pick up and play any time, nothing annoyed or frustrated me about it. The only problem is, my brother borrowed it and I never got it back.
