4.0 out of 5 stars incredibly tough fighting action, 30 Nov 2002
By A Customer
This is a great nhb(no holds barred) video from the days when it really was nhb. The fighters don't wear gloves, headbutts are allowed and there are no restrictions on knees and elbows. Whilst this makes for the less technical fighting of todays big shows like UFC and Pride this free fighting makes for some brutal bloody action. The skill level of the fighters is generally quite high but two fighters stand out, Mark Coleman's wrestling protege Nick Nutter and the super tough punching machine from the Ukraine Igor Vovchanchyn .Also Igor's semi final stand in opponent puts on a great display of sambo wrestling and maybe should have got the judges decision (espeacially impressive since he fights almost the entire fight with a broken wrist). But this sets up an incredible final which might not be the most explosive match up ever is the most incredible display of endurance and toghness i've ever witnessed in mma fighting. I highly reccomend this video to anyone who wants to experience the old raw style of mma, if you want to see more technical fights then go for some of the newer stuff.

2.0 out of 5 stars A little dissapointing., 19 Feb 2003
By A Customer
The Absolute fighting tournament (1)was really interesting to watch. You had variety of techniques being used. The standard was was good. This is why I was diappointed with this.

It lacked the variety of international stars, mainly USA and some Russians. Again as most of the NHBs end up grappling for hours. Its amusing that the commentators think that somehow lying on top of your opponent for most of the fight is somehow skillful. They seemed to not notice that these two fat guys where just extremely unfit and only beat people due to their enormous size. The only guy I liked was Igor, but even he was a little disappointing.

If you like watching men roling around with each other, this is the vid for you. There is not much stand up fighting (this is not cause ground technique is superior but the competitors lack the skill to stay up, as seen in many other vids).

If you have never seen a NHB its not bad, but if you are like me and watch loads you will require something of a higher standard.
