4.0 out of 5 stars Every one should have something by this great artist., 21 Oct 2001
By A Customer
I bought this album without ever having even heard of Franco, but upon listening to it I immediately became a huge fan of his work. There can be few higher recommendations for a C.D.
Franco was extremely prolific and produced hundreds and hundreds of albums during his decades long career.
This compilation tries to provide a fitting introduction to the man's music, and succeeds admirably in its task. Fine songs have been carefully picked from right across the Franco back catalogue, from the early Rhumba/Soukous days right through to the final years of his career and life. This collection is rich with variety, highlighting different facets of Franco's music.
The songs differ from each other quite widely in style and content. Quality musical arrangements, songwriting, singing and playing however, are common to each and every track.
'On entre O.K, On sort K.O' (you enter ok you leave Knocked out)is both the title of the first track, and a fitting summary of the C.D. I was
certainly 'knocked out' by the phenomenal power and devastating beauty of this music.

5.0 out of 5 stars great compilation of Africa's giant, 11 Nov 2001

Of the recent compilations of Franco in the Anglo-saxon world, this is one of the best, along with the rough guide to Franco cd. In his long career Franco recorded dozens of masterpieces, fusing the congolese rumba with african elements. A fair share of those are featured here with personal alltime favorites such as Azda and Kinsiona both with his greatest singer, Sam Mangwana.
