Pop with an edge!, 2 Aug 2001
After I heard the debut single, "Absolutely Everybody", I knew I had to buy this album. However, it was totally the opposite from what I expected - "The Power" is an album that seems to have every musical genre imaginable on it, and although this slightly disappointed me at first listen (as I had expected non-stop dance-pop like "Absolutely Everybody"), I quickly grew to love the variety this album offers! The stand-out track is still without a doubt "Absolutely Everybody", and others such as "The Power" and "Pray For Love" offer much the same kind of feel. But what makes this album are definately the tracks that you can't really describe - take "How Y' Livin'" for example. At the start, it has a very rocky feel; then, as the beat kicks in, it turns more R'n'B, while at the same time retaining an overall poppy feel. Other unique tracks like "I Wanna Be Your Everything" and "Have A Look" add to this album's appeal, making it sound better and better with every listen. All in all, if you like your pop with a bit of bite, then look no further than "The Power" - after a few listens, you'll be hooked!
