Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Two years ago Bob Sinclar broke ranks with the usually supportive Parisian club scene when he tried to release "Gym Tonic" from his album Paradise, after its co-producer Thomas Bangalter refused to let it out. Undeterred the French producer returns with a second album of skilfully filtered disco and phased boogie. Euro-wide hit "I Feel For You" largely sets the tone for a set built around high-riding house beats, swooping disco strings and full-on party sounds that occasionally settle into the gentle, glittery ambience of numbers like "You Are Beautiful". Largely built around real instruments this is a more complete album than its predecessor, featuring guests in the shape of Cerrone's backing singers and James Williams, the voice of 1980s dancefloor monsters D-Train who picks up the mic on the spangly, anthemic standout number "Got To Be Free". A couple more tracks like that and this would be pure diamond rather than shiny diamante. --Mike Pattenden

4.0 out of 5 stars Good french hosue/disco album, 8 Jan 2001

Stand out track "I Feel For You", so if you like that one you won't be disappointed. Other tracks are good, but with a more mellow disco groove. Very nice indeed.

4.0 out of 5 stars C'est Formidable Musique!!, 2 Nov 2002
By Mr. Simon Johnson (London, UK) - See all my reviews

If youre a fan of 70s and 80s disco and soul but also like more up to date dance stuff, then Champs Elysees is for you. More soulful than its predecessor, Paradise, Bob Sinclars love of disco and all things danceable and groovy shines through on this album! The 70s/80s feel is given a more modern feel for the millennium with some up to date production and dance beats.

Theres an impressive variety of tracks, from fast dancefloor-oriented ones to slower numbers and a few oddities thrown in for good measure too. Highlights from the faster toons include the title track, which sounds like the opening theme to a kitsch 70s glamour movie, or an outtake from The Love Boat (you can almost see the guys in their disco suits and the gals in sequined bikini tops); Can You Feel It (with scratching-style keyboards); Got To Be Free (with uplifting lyrics about us all being shining stars and a soulful vocal from James D-Train Williams) and Freedom (theres some naughty pre-song chat from some of Sinclars Angels on this one).

The slower tracks stand up well too, for example Life and the funky Darlin (on the latter James D-Train guests again, and this is one of my favourites from the album, with an 80s type feel that is reminiscent of one of Luther Vandross songs). Then theres the dreamy, trance-like You Are Beautiful, with watery sounds and a floatey feel.

In amongst all of this are some off-the wall tracks like Ich Rocke (with the repeated chant Ich Rocke in the Disco its German you know) and Save Our Soul. I found some of these less successful, but they show that Sinclar is prepared to experiment and produce something different at least.

All in all this is formidable musique...to be recommended!! Go buy, disco bunnies and dancefloor divas!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Gailic flair from the french master at work, 10 Dec 2000
By A Customer
With french house one expects funky, dancefloor sounds and the ambiance which puts a tingle down your spine. Well, Bob Sinclar is a master at work with his new album Champs Elysees. From chilled out tunes to dancefloor anthems Bob Sinclar has created an album which has certainly put the tingle down many clubbers spines. Especially with the dancefloor anthem-turned classic I Feel for you. With the bouncy bassline, soothing strings and dicso filters, I feel for you is a record that was critically acclaimed as ' brilliant '. Also with the single Champs Eylsees, Sinclar has used dance beats with a string orchestra which produces the sound of sweetness. With other funky tunes like Freedom and Striptease the consistency of Sinclar seems to be there after his other dancefloor anthem 'gym tonic'( 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and back!). A work of art from a master at work and I'm sure there is more to come from the boogie sound of Bob Sinclar.
