solo projects are usually hit and miss, often leading you to say "dont give up the day job". however with 'public places' russell simins brings together the blues explosions rawness with the quirky samples ala beck/beasties. The opening tracks 'im not a model' and public places will not dissapoint hardent BE fans,but sounding not too disimmilar to bob mould. However, other tracks 'jims problem' 'comfortable place' reveal the poppier side of simmins, with cut up strings and hammond organs. Similarly, those collaborations with the beastie boys and money mark result in funk laden tracks (Dont you believe). Overall public places gives a taste of greater things to come, and is more accomplish than his first solo outing with Butter 08. a must for all john spencer fans (0r not) Buy this now!!!
