5.0 out of 5 stars World Premiere Recording of superlative quality!, 20 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This World Premiere recording of Johann David Heinichen's La Pace di Kamberga is of superlative quality in terms of recording, performance and the accompanying notes. This is a major ' must have ' addition to the currently available recordings of this highly individualistic composers work.

The oratorio La Pace di Kamberga occupies a pivotal role in Heinichen's oeuvre and life in that it secured for him the prestigious musical appointment of Kapellmeister to the Dresden court of Augustus the Strong where he lived and worked until his death in 1729. La Pace di Kamberga is dedicated to the Prince Elector Friedrich August whom Heinichen first met in Venice in early 1716 and who was so convinced of Heinichen's abilities he forcefully and successfully petitioned his father to employ him to the extent that from August of that year he was on the court payroll.

Formed in 1992 the Batzdorfer Hofkapelle is made up of musicians from in and around Dresden specialising in Baroque music and instruments and dedicated to the performance of works from the rich and unjustly neglected repertoire of the 17th and 18th century Dresden Hofkapelle. The virtuosic aplomb, sensitivity and sheer enjoyment of performing this music which they and the soloists clearly communicate belies the immense amount of work necessary to present this long forgotten music to our ears. This recording is an uplifting and refreshing experience made all the more poignant by the accompanying sleeve notes and libretto text.

If you like me discovered the music of Johann David Heinichen with the Musica Antiqua Koln award winning Dresden Concerti recording of instrumental music then continue your exploration by going out and buying this- you won't regret it!
