5.0 out of 5 stars Floyds best album now with shrink wrap & original artwork !, 15 Feb 2001
By Patrick Collins "pcollins114" (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
25 years on and Floyds masterpiece finally appears as it originally did in September 75 - hidden behind its black shrink wrap ! An outer layer - to peel away and reveal what lies beneath. A true concept album right down to the packaging. Although most people seem to think this album was significantly inspired by Syd Barret, I recall Waters and co being rather disinterested in their erstwhile co founder who turned up at the studio during recording at the time. The albums theme (absence and Waters' absence moreover) is maginficiently represented by the cover artwork (by Hipgnosis)and although the music was ground breaking it really was the look and feel of the entire package that gave the album its magestic imagery. A great buy for those who miss album sleeve design and who wonder why cd's came out in those jewel cases instead of being released just as "mini - lp's". If you've already got the remastered version treat yourself to this gem.

And the music - Magnificent 6 stars !

5.0 out of 5 stars Mott the Dog thinks this is great., 8 Jan 2001
By Kim Fletcher (Pattaya, Chonburi Thailand) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
After the Amazingly successful "Dark Side of the Moon" Pink Floyd released their follow up album "Wish You Were Here" in 1975. Still, David Gilmour, Pink Floyd lead guitarist vocalist and present leader's favorite all time Pink Floyd album. Containing 5 songs, 2 laments for the departed Syd Barret, 2 cynical but funny swipes at the music business (how can you resist the line "Oh by the way which ones Pink?). "Have a Cigar" was actually sung on the record by long time friend of Pink Floyd Roy Harper and the beautiful acoustic ballad "Wish You Were Here", with its mournful lyrics. The Real Star of the show though is the production, which the band did between themselves. The wonderful musicianship of David Gilmour and Richard Wright carries you right through the journey and though the album is big, ambitious, even bombastic, it somehow dodges being pretentious. The Barret tributes are honest and heartfelt, and the cynical swipes at the music industry, signs of what was to come on Pink Floyd's next album "The Wall". "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" and "Wish You Were Here" are still firm favorites in the Pink Floyd road show, and the CD still nestles in the Billboard Top 350 sellers after 25 years. Mott the Dog.

5.0 out of 5 stars How do you review a classic., 23 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Almost the perfect album, wish you were here with it's acoustic guitar start coming from the sound of a radio being retuned, the majesty of Shine on you Crazy diamond, the lyrical content alluding to former Floyder Syd Barrett (who was 'Pink'). The almost rock song Have a Cigar, with guest vocals from Roy Harper. A great album, and a bonus here with the original artwork recreated in miniature down to the black plastic cover.
