Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Culled from the era when compiler Mark Doyle was at the peak of his DJ'ing career (late 1980s/early 1990s) and afterwards, from his notorious London Back To Love club sessions, most of the tunes on this second Hed Kandi collection have seemingly been chosen for their instant feel-good factor. Starting with Kariya's "Let Me Love You For Tonight" the first disc moves through house classics like Degrees Of Motion's "Do You Want It Right Now", Inner City's "Pennies From Heaven", Ce Ce Roger's "Someday" and Rhythim is Rhythim's "Strings Of Life". The second CD takes a leisurely stroll through hip-hop courtesy of King Bee ("Back By Dope Demand"), De La Soul ("Say No Go") and Young MC ("Know How") as well as some good old-school soul that ranges from Soul II Soul ("Back To Life") and The Chimes ("123") right back to The Jackson Sisters with "I Believe In Miracles". It's all good clean fun, with a refreshing balance of underground club cool and accessibility. --Paul Sullivan

5.0 out of 5 stars Dance music nostalgia doesn't come any better than this....., 16 Oct 2000
Hed Kandi has done it again - Respect then, to Mark Doyle for this latest addition to the very wonderful Hed Kandi compilation series.

Back to Love - the first compilation of massive tunes to encapsulate the 'spirit of '89' was superb, and if you don't already have it in your collection, then its a must buy.

Back to Love 2 follows the first installment by again tapping into a rich musical vein.

What do you get for your money? Two more discs of wonderful tracks that are guaranteed to bring a smile to your face and take you back to some amazing times from the past...(sigh!)

Disc 1 contains such wonders as Kariya - Let me Love you for Tonight, Ce Ce Rogers - Someday, and other tracks with huge piano intros that have frankly, never been surpassed - Degree of Motion and Rhythim is Rhythim.

Disc 2 celebrates Classic Disco with one of my all time favourite tracks by First Choice - Let No Man Put Asunder, Rare Groove, Hip-Hop and Classic Soul (Archie & The Drells - Don't let Love get you down).

If you were clubbing at the time these tracks were first released, then this compilation will take you straight back, with a smile. If you're a little younger, then I still urge you to buy this CD and listen to some of the most memorable and defining musical moments of the dance generation.

Back to Love 2 is, without question, the best Hed Kandi release so far from a selection that has been consistently of top quality.

2.0 out of 5 stars oh dear ..., 10 Oct 2001
By A Customer
After the superb Back To Love, I was looking forward to this.

Alas, it was not to be. A lot of the tunes have dated terribly and Hed Kandi would have been wiser pulling all the seriously funky numbers into a single CD rather than spreading them thinly across two.

A typical example is the piano intro on Rhythm Is Rhythm which is fantastic. However, the rest of the track rapidly loses the plot and you'll find yourself skipping the track after the intro. The inclusion of tracks like the cack handed Aly-us beggars belief!

There are some great classics here though from Inner City, De La Soul, Young MC, Young Disciples and the superb Real Love by Driza Bone that epitomises the sound of the late 80's more than any other track in the compilation.

The Disco Kandi series remains Hed Kandi's beacon of light in an otherwise drab collection of compilations.
