Amazon.co.uk Review

Roboteers Ready? Well hopefully you will be, because the popular TV series Robot Wars has come to the Game Boy in Robot Wars: Metal Mayhem.

Now is that chance to prove that all that planning and devising you've done, all that contemplating whether a circular saw or a flipper is the best weapon and whether it really is a bad idea to always go for the wheelchair motor will bear fruit.

Because one of the first tasks you are requested to do in Robot Wars: Metal Mayhem is make your own robot, choosing weight, style and attacking weapon.

If this all sounds a tad daunting, don't worry--the game comes complete with a number of ready-made robots ready to do battle.

Once you have designed and created your robot, all that is left is to cause havoc on the battlefield against other robots and as one would expect, all the games from the popular TV show are here, whether it be a battle of sheer strength in the Sumo round or mere battle of wits to the death in the Grudge Match, its all here.

Like the series, the robots at times seem impossible to control and the possibilities of throwing it into a trap of one of the house robot's can become annoying familiar. That said, however, this is a fun little title that will have you humming the theme tune, quoting the show and working out once and for all what is the best motor to have. --Stuart Miles

Product Description

Prepare for battle by building your own robot. Next choose which weapons you will use to destroy your enemy... a rotating flipper, an electric axe or a cobalt cutter? Then it's all out, full scale WAR! Choose from the following challenges to test your mettle against the metal...

With op\ tions such as Grudge Match, find out if you really are the best in more robot rampage. Select the robot of your choice to go one-to-one with. It's all about skill and determination--go on, you know you can do it!

In Trials, try out different robots over a variety of events and terrain. Test your metal warrior's agility and speed in the following events: Skittles--put your control and agility to the test by seeing how many targets you can hit. Try your robot over a variety of challenging terrain. Robot Sumo--killer instinct, weight and strength are key here as you try to force a competitor robot from its position. Make sure you don't let your guard down though--the pit is waiting to swallow up the loser! Slalom--can you get your robot around the obstacle course in the fastest possible time and avoid hazards as you go? Guantlet--for the ultimate testin roboteering, run the Gauntlet as quickly as possible and avoid damage along the way.

WAR ZONE--Fight to the death in this battle of all battles. Aim to become a champion roboteer by winning as many rounds of the contest as you can. Beware though--the arena is a dangerous battle ground.

2.0 out of 5 stars Robot wars, 26 Oct 2001
By A Customer
I bought this game thinking it was going to be great but I was very disappointed. People say it's hard control - nah! it's easy! Once you have completed it (which took me 5 minutes) you put it down and forget about it. They say you 'make your own robots with lots of different types of options. Yeah right. The flippers don't flip and they don't give you flamethrowers!!!! What the hell is the point of making a robot wars game with no flamethrowers?!?! Save yourself some dosh and don't buy this game.

1.0 out of 5 stars Robot wash out!, 26 Nov 2001
By A Customer
What can I say? How about a decent TV show licence does not a good game make! There are a couple of other robot wars games but It has to be said that the GBC version has to be the worst one & possibly a candidate for the worse game of all time! although the game boasts a lot of gameplay features (& I really do mean boasts!) these features different can be finished in less then an hour! Even the 'warzone' mode where you basically fight some of the decent robots from the show one after another untill you're declared the champion is too easy to win! I could go on for about another 30 lines wasting my time saying how bad this is! But I won't I will mearely sign off with saying the game is not even worth a £1.00 in gameplay value which is the most important factor of any game! Don't waste your time! Buy either the GBA, PC or PS2 version instead!

5.0 out of 5 stars Roboteers,Stand by!!, 6 Jan 2001
Whatevever the other reveiws say,READ THIS FIRST!!I bought the game"Robot Wars-Metal Mayhem"And it's absolutely brilliant!!One of the reveiws said that the robots were hard to control, and thats true, but only to a certain point. After a while, then you can control the robots as if you'd done it all your life. You can either build your own robot,or play as Chaos 2,Or "Panic Attack",and many more besides!!Also, you can do the trials, like the"Sumo Basho" It's absolutely brilliant, and would highly reccomend it to any budding Robot Wars fan!!
