Product Description
Amazon.co.uk Review
Bocelli fans will find much to admire in this collection of some of the best-known and best-loved tenor arias from the Verdi canon. He brings his trademark sense of bravura and showmanship to the more aggressive numbers--impossibly endless top notes in "Di quella pira" and "La donna è mobile" for example, and awe-inspiring high pianissimos in "Celeste Aida". And, as on his other recordings, the microphone clearly captures something indefinably engaging about his voice--a sense of vulnerability, perhaps, or maybe simply it's the pleasure he clearly brings to each number. He is also ably accompanied by Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic. If his phrasing is sometimes a little four-square, or his sense of characterisation a little formulaic, or the tone not always as rounded as one might wish, perhaps that's not the point of this recording. If Bocelli can use his huge popularity to introduce some of these arias to new audiences then he is doing a great service. --Warwick Thompson

5.0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!, 21 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Another first class album from Andrea Bocelli. This star is certainly giving all other tenors a run for their money. Bocelli is probably the finest tenor performing today. He has been endowed with a natural warm, resonant and 'velvety' voice that places him ahead of the competition. This album is certainly well worth owning, particularly if you are a Verdi fan. His interpretation of the music is somewhat different than other performances one may have heard of Verdi - but that is what makes Bocelli unique. He has the ability to make the music his 'own'. This is the case with virtually everything he performs. So listen many times to get the feel of what Bocelli is doing and once you do anything less in artistry simply will not do!! Bocelli is able to get 'inside' the music, something a lot of singers are unable to achieve - but then this is what talent does. The phrasing is wonderful and the rubato brilliant. So get the album, get some time alone, listen and enjoy.

P.S. Bocelli's technique is second-to-none.

5.0 out of 5 stars Has to be heard to be believed, 4 Mar 2006
One of my dear friends sent me this album for Christmas and listening to it has truly changed my life. Andrea Bocelli is in a class of his own - words fail me to describe his unique voice and his talent. His high notes in particular really do have to be heard to be believed and this is by far the best album he has ever released (Yes, I own all his other albums - even though my opera-loving friends make fun of me for this). I just wish Andrea would sing more opera and less middle-of-the-road songs with crossover artists such as Bryn Terfel. Would also really like to hear Andrea sing some duets with Thomas Hampson who is my favourite Verdi baritone of all time. I would seriously recommend this album as essential listening to anyone who loves opera.

5.0 out of 5 stars smoother bocelli, 23 Oct 2000
Admirers of the rather harsh "flamenco" tone of some of Bocelli's work,e.g. Sacred Arias",will find this Verdi C.D. surprisingly smooth and rounded. This may be a product of Germanic soundmixing, but the result is superb and Bocelli once again shivers the spine!
