3.0 out of 5 stars Classic 80s Horror, 3 Nov 2007
I couldn't not offer some sort of review for this movie considering it's been popped into the VCR some twenty odd times over the years. I don't know why people are saying it's hilarious because it quite frankly scares the bejeesus out of me each time, even if the special effects are of that easily-spotted eighties quality. Maybe it's down to being allowed to watch it from a young age, which is shocking considering it's quite raunchy in places! It really isn't remarkable or distinctive, and follows the same old story and predictability, but if you're in need of a scare - but want to keep away from the considerable goriness of modern day productions - then it's a good little movie to have in the collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Vampire Romp, 24 Jun 2005
Fright night is an entertaining vampire romp from the mid eighties that sets a teenage boy and his on screen hero against the vampire that has decided to move in next door.
The story itself is a little silly in places, but the effects, while now dated, still have a kind of shock value. A sterling performace from Rod McDowall is the major highlight of this film, but generally, all the actors do suit their characters. Overall, a good comedy horror, but anyone that is used to bigger budget vampire flicks such as Blade or Underworld may be disapointed. If however, you like a film for more than just the expensive special effects, it sure worth a look.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best horror film ive seen, 28 Jan 2004

(REAL NAME)
Forget Freddy, Jason and that Michael Myers fella, Jerry Dandridge(Chris Sarandon) is the scariest thing you will see in an 80s horror film. At a first glance you may see a cool well dressed goodlooking guy but underneath that exterior is something so scary you will be peeking from behind your cushion for most of the film.
the good thing about fright night is that it has its comedy moments too which are supplied by Peter Vincent(Roddy McDowell) the fearless vampire killer who doesnt want to believe that charlies next door neighbour is a bloodsucker and fumbles around pretending to perform tests on the vamp to prove to charlie that he is human (making him drink tap water instead of holy water) how heroic, but in the end he is convinced and reluctantly tries to help charlie slay the demon.
if you havent seen this film before i highly reccomend it, its a film you wont get bored of and the effects for the time are very good indeed, i watched all the horror films when i was young and they all scared me, but this is the only one to still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, what more can i say? BUY IT, BUY IT NOW !!!!!!!!!
