Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Fatboy Slim digs deep in the vaults, finds an obscure surf-guitar classic, and with a wave of his big beat wand, "Sliced Tomatoes" by the Just Brothers undergoes a phoenix-like rebirth, emerging as the all-conquering "Rockafeller Skank". Meanwhile, Apollo Four Forty nip down the local Oxfam, and pick out Status Quo's "Caroline". It's the main sample on their Top Ten smash "Don't Stop The Rock". Will this do? Actually, yes. Big beat has a way with making the cheesiest of rock moves seem like God-given dancefloor charm, and much of Gettin' High is a pretty competent, self proclaimed festival of the dumb. No, "Crazee Horse"'s refrain of "I got no remorse / Like a crazee horse" doesn't quite have the same idiot savant ring as "check it out now/ the funk soul brother", but "Lost In Space" has no doubt filled more dancefloors than the rest of the Skint roster put together, which makes Gettin' High pretty hard to knock. --Louis Pattison

5.0 out of 5 stars Shot in the arm, 8 Jul 2003
By A Customer
This morning I played this for the first time in a year. It's still a blast from start to finish and sounds as fresh as ever. That's the advantage of never being fashionable. It's what pop and rock should be about, sheer good fun with a dash of barmy experimentalism thrown in. In times when the introspective miserablist noodlings of Coldplay and Radiohead are hip, Apollo 440 are a shot in the arm. Predictable this album is not, mixing heavy rock guitar with powerhouse breakbeat drumming, squelches and cascading keyboards. This is a lot less serious sounding than the previous 2 albums, moving away from the trancier vibe towards a sheer rocking out, and all the better for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A triumph for 440, with a hidden gem., 10 Dec 2000
This album has received a lot of praise (and it deserves every bit of it), but everyone seems to have forgotten the title track 'Getting High on your own Supply' which is simply superb and the best on the album. It sounds as if @440 put together an entire score for a James Bond film, and let an English MC knock himself out, so to speak. Absolutely brilliant.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dumb but fun, 30 Aug 2002
By A Customer
Dumb cheesy big beat dance music occasionally intercepted by equally dumb cheesy guitar distortion and vocal samples. On paper this album should fall flat on its face and it wouldn't surprise me if most dance purists turn their nose up at this offering.

However for those who can digest distorted guitars, this album is a fun albeit immature listen.

From the dance/rock of 'Lost In Space Theme' to the mellower jazz of 'Machine In The Ghost' and the dumb rap/metal of 'Stadium Parking Lot' as well as other notable mentions in the form of 'Crazee Horse' and the slightly cheesy but equally fun 'Heart go Boom' this album serves up non stop fun. Just don't expect the Kappa wearing Judge Jule fan boy fools to agree with you.
