5.0 out of 5 stars A must-buy single for Oasis fans, 23 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Whatever is easily the best Oasis single and a must-have for any fan. The title track does not appear on any Oasis album (except limited editions of Definitely Maybe) and is of the greatest Oasis tunes of all time. Half the World Away is a classic Noel song on acoustic guitar while Good to Be Free is an edgy song about the band's difficulties in America. Added to this is Slide Away off Definitely Maybe. Even if you own the Masterplan and have tracks 2-4, the single is worth buying just for Whatever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential, 24 Sep 2006
This single is absolutely essential to anyone with ears.

It's not often that I wax lyrical about the qualities of anything, but this single is amazing.

Whatever is a 'not on the album' single, which copies a tactic used by The Beatles with 'Hey Jude' and more recently Blur with 'Popscene'.

Whereas the A side is fantastic, the B-sides are the killer point for me. Half the World Away is known by millions as 'That tune off the Royle Family', and is another example of Oasis as a killer band and Noel as a great singer. 'It's Good To Be Free' is amazing, with one of Noel's best guitar solos. Slide Away was of course on the first album, and needs no further analysis.

In short, this is a geat microcosm of the world class band Oasis were in the mid-90s, and a copy should be sent to Noel to remind him how he used to do it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Single you have to own !!!!, 14 Jul 2002
By Mr. P. Kelly "Paul" (Manchester) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As an Oasis fan you must own this great CD, firstly it is the only single Oasis have released which doesnt feature on any of their studio albums. 'Whatever' is an anthmetic rock tune which is seen as many as Oasis' s best single ever released, the CD features 'Its Good (to be free}', a great Rock n roll tune which really gets you in the mood, Liams vocal's really do make this a classic 'B-Side'. Also on the album is 'Half The World Away', written and sang by Noel, is wrote about his time in Manchester, and became such a hit as a B side that Manchester's very own sitcom 'The Royle Family', decided to use it as there theme music. Finally the single ends with a song from there highly rated album 'Definately Maybe'.. 'Slide Away', another super track where Liam's vocal talent come to live with this Rock n roll ballad.

if you havnt already got it, then buy it WHATEVER you think of Oasis :)
