When good bands play bad songs, 13 Feb 2006
I'd never heard of Metroschifter before, but bought the album after taking a shine to the song Impossible Outcomes. Unfortunately, this song is the sole highlight, in an awkward-school-boy-emo kind of a way.The lows are pretty low - The Promise Ring's contribution really shows the band up not just as one-hit wonders, but that when Davey von Bohlen is bad, he is very, very bad. The same could be said for Refused, who were an entirely workmanlike proposition until their last release, which was truely delivered unto them by the Norse God of Hardcore. Burning Airlines' effort is not fit to clean the shoes of any of the songs on Mission: Control!, and Joan Of Arc prove that there is no monopoly on ex-Cap'n Jazzers playing bad songs. Do yourself a favour and get hold of any of Analphabetapolothology, The Shape Of Punk To Come, Mission: Control!, Something To Write Home About or Nothing Feels Good instead. All of these albums feature performers from this compilation at the peak of their game. Don't bother with this.
