Amazon.co.uk Review

For Creepshow 2, the quickie 1987 sequel to the Stephen King-scripted/George Romero-directed 1982 original, Romero shifted jobs to become the screenwriter, earning King (who also has a goony cameo as a trucker) a "based on stories by" credit. Cinematographer Michael Gornick stepped up to make an uninspiring directorial debut, turning out a conventional TV-look picture unlike the sometimes striking Creepshow.

A frame story mixes live action and cartoon as a small boy leafs through the latest issue of his favourite horror comic while plotting revenge against neighbourhood bullies. A pun-dropping host called the Creep (played by Tom Savini when not a cartoon) introduces three anecdotes. In "Old Chief Wooden Head", George Kennedy and Dorothy Lamour are kindly Western shopkeepers killed by tearaways and avenged by the wooden Indian which stands outside the place. In "The Raft", four obnoxious teens are terrorised on a lake by a hungry slime-monster. And in "The Hitch-Hiker", hit-and-run driver Lois Chiles is haunted by her squashed victim, who keeps reappearing in a progressively battered forms. Though King and Romero deliver a good mix of cynical and melodramatic dialogue, the stories are disappointingly thin and predictable, with especially weak punch-lines. Of the performers, only Chiles really works up the hysterical attack needed to play a comic book character.

On the DVD: just a trailer. The picture is a fullscreen print that cuts off crucial details in the comic book panels. --Kim Newman

4.0 out of 5 stars Quit a good film but not up to the par of the original., 21 Oct 2000
Stephen King and George A. Romero reunite for the sequel to the horror classic 'Creepshow'. The sequel offers only three stories this time around and the higher budget shows. It was the low budget of the first movie that gave it its raw appeal but something seems to be missing from Creepshow 2. The first tale, 'Old Cheif Woodenhead' is a dire affair about a wooden staue of an indian that comes to life to avenge the death of the shopkeeper who owns him. 'The Raft' is a better story where a gang of teenagers take a trip to the lake and are hounded by an oil slick. The last story, 'The Hitch-Hiker' is definately the best. An unfaithful woman is traveling back to her husband when she has an encounter with a hitch-hiker that just refuses to die.

The wrap-around animated story is about a boy who is bullied by the local tearaways until he gets his revenge with an item he purchased from the comic he loves... Creepshow.

Definately worth owning as it is a well acted movie but it pales in comparison to the original.

At £5.99, you cannot afford to miss out on the sequel to the greatest film ever made.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tony Murtagh's review on Creepshow 2..., 15 Jun 2005
Being a fan of the short stories a friend recommended Creepshow 2 to me. It's 3 short stories in one. Old Chef wooden head, The raft & The hitchiker. By far The raft is the stronger of the 3 stories about 4 teens who swim out to a raft on a lake only to find an evil oil slick is circling them killing the teens one by one. The other stories were OK but I'd say buy this one for that raft story!

2.0 out of 5 stars creep show, freak show, 5 Jun 2005
this film is very old and for the oldness it as no good effects on any part of the film, its a film containing of three stories which are more funny than scary. its freaky in parts where the film sometimes makes no sence.
