This CD carries the two shows originally issued on the very first Goon Show LP (Best of the Goon Shows) with another from the second (Best of the Goon Shows no2 - what else?). They are good shows, shorn of all musical content as was the practice by Parlophone/EMI. Nevertheless thay are still funny and a good introduction to the joys of Goon humour. "Dishonoured" was such a good script Spike reworked it 3 times (the title of this one should be "Dishonoured-Again" by the way) and has my favourite Goon gag "I want to prove I'm a man!""Report to the M.O!".
LP no2 had on the other side "The Scarlet Capsule" a superb spoof of "Quatermass & the Pit" - let's hope EMI reissue this with the other shows that were on Parlophone for so long.
The alternative would be that the BBC augment the 20 double CD sets they have issued so far with the 12 shows originally put out on Parlophone, fully restored. (6 of these are available on EMI CD including the 3 shows here)

I grew up listening to an old record of the Goons that I played so many times, I have memorized both sides.

"Raise your right leg, point north, and discharge your duty -- namely a weather report of this week's show". Or "What's that sixty-foot hairy pole hidden under your kilt? -So you spotted it eh? -Only when the sun glinted on it."

You get the idea. This record has more of the same. "Can I come too? Well it's about time you came to!"

The chemistry between Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers, and Harry Secombe is amazing--quick and entirely spontaneous. I hope to find more recordings of this mad trio.

Check out this British comedy at it's best. It is truly classic Goon show material.
