A-HA have well and truly returned to their rightful 1980s' status of being perfect Pop. Their 1st single from 'Minor earth, Major sky' album, "Summer Moved On" displayed once again that they have not lost the creativity to produce a hit single with meaningful lyrics, sung by a singer with intense passion who has an awesome voice and accomplished by glorious and often dramatic music. Their music is always trying to tell you something about the band. HOWEVER, the single "Minor earth, Major sky" not only recaptures past glories but also elevates a-ha on to a new level! The first lines of the song..."I can't see me in this empty place, just another lonely face"...is sung by Morten in quite a high key revealing a 'desperate' mood for the listeners'. The music is as usual played majestically well however it's the pause and slight distortions in the music and in Mortens' voice during the chorus that really captured me. It's something that I had never experienced from a-ha before and it felt somewhat unique. The song proceeds into another verse with the bass guitar bearing a heavy influence on the mood of the song. At this stage "Minor earth, Major sky" sounds like a title song from a 'James Bond' movie - yet again - but truly excellent nonetheless! I have always and will always continue to love and admire a-ha for their musical qualities and Morten Harkerts' extraordinary voice. "Minor earth, Major sky" is by all accounts a very personal record..."Can you hear me when I speak out loud, hear my voice above the crowd"...this segment is taken from the 2nd verse of the song and really allows the listeners' to sense just how a-ha are feeling. Its' a wonderfully 'bruising' record that contains weight in it's verses and chorus. A-HA ARE OUT TO PROVE A POINT.....ALARMINGLY THEY HAVE DONE SO WITH SUCH EASE.
