Synopsis
This live-action adaptation of the renowned Asterix and Obelix comic series stars Christian Clavier, Gerard Depardieu, and Roberto Benigni. When an irate Julius Caesar (Gottfried John) comes to their village, Asterix (Clavier) and his invincible friend, Obelix (Depardieu), must fight to save their home. Benigni is typically hilarious as the villain Tullius Destructivus.

I bought this film hoping to get a choice of whether to watch it in the original language (French) with subtitles, or in English. In the description of the product it states - Language: French German
This was not the case. The only version on the DVD was the English dubbed version. Disappointed! Hopefully Amazon will update the information so other customers won't be misled.

Just sit back and enjoy. Of course this movie isn't a real meat and potatoes kind of film but it has a lot of fun action. I don't know why a 4-year old wouldn't have liked it because it's a good treatment of a comic book character. Asterix helped me learn French and the movie is true to his character in every way! Bravo!

Asterix and Obelix take on Caeser is a visual feast. They director has recreated the gaul's little village and indeed their entire world down to the smallest detail. All of the character's are there, even Dogmatix and Geriatrix.

It is mostly a new story, although idea's, storybites and scenes are taken from at least half a dozen of the books as the evil Detritus attempts to take control of the empire and its up to Asterix and Obelix to stop him.

The fights are all handled in a supurbly cartooney way with roman's being chucked everywhere but like always no-one gets killed. A must for Asterix fans
