By the time "Vauxhall And I" was released Morrissey was being written off a as major musical force in the UK as new bands like Radiohead and Blur were taking the spotlight, however this was his biggest selling solo album in America and was driven by the brilliant track "The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get" which is probably his best single, since the brilliant "Everyday Is Like Sunday" and one of the more upbeat Morrissey tracks despite the fact that overall the album is typically Morrissey and features his very down beat, moody rock style. The other highlights on this brilliant album include "I Am Hated For Loving", "Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself", "Hold On To Your Friends" and Now My Heart Is Full". Overall it's a great album and definitely the best since his debut album and starts to see him recapture the charm he had when he was with The Smiths.
