5.0 out of 5 stars Simply The Best, 30 Oct 2006
By Mr. S. K. Buet (Birmingham, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
If you are looking for a game you can stick in your machine and finish in a couple of days - don't buy this. If you're looking for a game where the path ahead is signposted in big letters, don't buy this game. If however, you're looking for a game to immerse yourself into for a few weeks or even a couple of months - this is it. Questions like "what is that used for?", "What on earth is that?" and "I wonder what ....." are commonly springing into your mind as you explore the islands and every piece of the puzzle you understand is tremendously satisfying.

Following on from Myst, Riven continues the story beautifully although you don't have to have played Myst to be totally engrossed in what is laid before you. It's a challenging game which requires the writing of notes, you have to take it seriously of you will not succeed. Quite simply, it's the best game I have ever played on my PC and five stars just doesn't do it justice!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Do your self a favour - get this game, 22 Feb 2003
Whether youve played Myst or not, this is a fantastic game and one which every gamer should be privalaged enough to have. It has everything you could want: stunning graphics, haunting music, complex characters, a gripping storyline, mind mangling puzzles, and months of gameplay.

The graphics are rendered in full and rich colour, and are a wonder to behold. The music is haunting and mysterious, and enriches the experience of playing the game. It is the sort of music that you want to get on a cd and listen to in its own right. Unlike the first game of Myst, Riven occasionally has characters walking arround the ages that you can interact with. The storyline of Riven develops as the game progresses, and builds on the saga that was started in the original Myst, (and is continued in Exile). This game has the hardest puzzles out of the trilogy, and all of the can be solved using skill as opposed to trial and error. Riven has the most playing hours out of any non-open-ended game that I have ever played ever! It took me many, many hours to fninish, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

This is a game that you need to have played at some point, and is definitely one to get!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Plug in your headphones, turn off the lights and enter......, 8 Oct 2001
A fantastic game from beginning to end! I would definitely recommend playing with headphones (to protect your neighbours and to aid game-play!). I got so enthralled in this game that I dreamed about it for the whole 3 months that it took me to complete (OK, so I'm slow, but I didn't cheat!) I was also so 'there' that I jumped out of my skin every time the CD tray popped open to change one of the 5 discs! I would say that Riven is the best of the Myst games (even having played Myst III). Although moving about in Myst III is easier, Riven beats it on length and depth of intrigue. Definitely a must-buy!
